  1. I can't blame you. Also, I might add you sound like my dad. He can't NOT be busy. Cannot.
  2. Like the others have said, that's a beautiful engine swap. 920 gold - it's in the first post.
  3. That looks like a 260z/280z dash, and if it's got tool box doors behind the seats, it's not a series 1. BTW, vertical defroster lines were used up until about 12/71. However, being a non-US S30, I'm not sure all the same rules apply. I don't think it's a series 1 though.
  4. It should. The hatches are 99% identical from 71 to 78. I think the only difference is that there wouldn't be a second hatch shock mount on the 240z hatch since only the 280Zs had two gas shocks. I don't know of any other differences, and can't think of why there would be any others, excluding the series 1 hatches. Even still, the louvers should fit 70-78 S30s.
  5. David, that sounds more like an early 240Z. I believe the late 71+ Zs all had 3 pin emblems, at 12 o'clock, and roughly 4:30 and 7:30. There's a slot at the bottom of the emblem, likely for drainage, but I used that to sort of pry at them to break them loose. Proceed with caution if you do that, it's probably not the proper way to do it.
  6. Xnke, that is the most absurd thing I've ever heard. I too have taken Calc 1 three times, but that's because I didn't try. The first time I failed it. The second time I effectively failed it, but the professor gave me a D! For them to fail your for no reason is absolute bullshit. I'm sorry to hear you had such a poor experience. That's really just unacceptable on their part.
  7. I don't think a 1JZ 280z is going to weigh near 2300-2400 without a lot of weight reduction. A stock 240z is around 2350. 2500-2600 would be my guess.
  8. Wait what? You sold the car? Who bought what?
  9. How soon do you need the pieces? I *might* have something, in okay (not great) condition, but I'd have to look, and I don't have time for that right now at all.
  10. The 240Z is a 40 year old tin can. Safety-wise, it is a horrible choice. Also, "budget" and "safety" should never be in the same sentence. If I wanted a safe car, I'd get a Benz or a Volvo.
  11. I'm Owen, I'm also 20, I go to Rowan University, and would be an ME student, but their program is so hard to get into, and my GPA is so poor, that it's likely not going to happen, and I will likely transfer after spring '11 if all goes well. I have a 1976 280z in pieces (on hold until I know what I'm doing - in over my head) and a 1971 240z that I just got running, although it is a bit rusty. I got into Zs for a few reasons. The first being my parent's 1978 280Z they've had since my moms Comet was found stolen from the airport when my parents returned from their honeymoon. The Z was the replacement, and my mom's new DD. I liked them, but I also liked the idea of modifying cars, but didn't know anything could be done with them until a few years ago when I stumbled on this site, and Austin's 240z, as well as mull's project. Now I'm here with two Zs, a pile of parts, an an old rusty Jeep and I'm way in over my head... but getting there.
  12. I don't know what carbs use 15psi, but mine take around 4psi. IIRC the stock EFI Zs take around 30-35psi.
  13. Congrats dude. Your first drive definitely went better than mine.
  14. Nope, didn't come with a console or dash.
  15. It runs. So, today I changed the oil, filled the tank, and filled the radiator. Tried to start it, and we didn't fuel. This is because the hardline that goes under the car, the only one I haven't replaced, is bad. Currently have a line going from the pump, through a rust hole in the spare wheel well through the passenger compartment, and through the firewall. Try again, and it does fire. Got it running for a bit, shut it off to recheck the fluids, and there's a pool of oil on the floor. When I changed the oil filter, the old gasket stuck to the block... remove spare gasket, reinstall filter, problem solved. Finally, the rear brakes need work. Left one was stuck, and the right one is clearly leaking. There are no rear brakes, at all. Lastly, when I pulled in the garage, I noticed two wires on the floor, one with a freshly cut connection... turns out it was from the headlight that was in my spare fender. Bummer, but oh well.
  16. Yep, that's what mine look like. I have a series 1 1971 240Z.
  17. That's a series 1 seat. They don't recline, but they do adjust. They're not completely fixed-back.
  18. Agreed. Never heard of a 4x114.0 bolt pattern.
  19. Aha! I knew I recognized it. The green one that is. Pretty sure it's an RB26 240z that belongs to getoffmyinternet.
  20. Ah, I was hoping you knew what was wrong with mine in all your infinite knowledge, since I haven't a damn clue where to even begin. I'm thinking it's the hinges since both doors did it, that is, both driver and passenger, as well as the spare driver's door that I tried... but it just seemed like too much slop for it to just be the hinges, which were the common factor in my experimenting. Hopefully it's not the unibody that's the problem... but I have no reason to believe that it is.
  21. That's what mine does. Did the bottom of your door also stick out? Before I removed it, the driver's door stuck out around 3/8" at the bottom rear of the door. I had to actually pick up the door to close it. Did it with both sets of doors I tried too.
  22. That's what I figured, but was hoping it wasn't.
