  1. And suddenly I'm not feeling so bad about the rust my car has... I'd say mine is more solid than both of those. drive185mph - You should first take car of the rust. That car looks like it has a lot of it, and probably isn't safe to drive. Hope you've got deep pockets if it's as bad as I think it is.
  2. I've heard this before. Never gets old.
  3. Ain't that the truth. I'm in the process of getting back on track in school. I last took a math course seriously in 2007/2008 (kind of). I am now doing Calc 1, and despite the fact I was doing quite well when I last did this material, I am TOTALLY lost. It's really just embarrassing. We're doing Pre-Calc review... and I'm lost...
  4. Yeah the rear mounts in the 240z really are the most poorly thought out design I've seen. The 280z mounts are significantly better. If I were planning on keeping my 240Z, it is definitely something I'd redesign.
  5. Won't fit a 280z. Or did you mean to say you have a 280z dash cap?
  6. That's definitely not a mount for a '73. The early mounts have vertical bolts (like you have) and the later mounts have horizontal bolts. The design is somewhat similar to how the front control arm bolts to the crossmember. You'd know if it was the wrong mount.
  7. Curious as to why you left the rear bumper shelf? Doesn't look like you're putting bumpers back on.
  8. Gorgeous. Was the roll bar welded in without any plates to spread the load? I thought you weren't supposed to do that, ever.
  9. Between your 510, and this Z, I have to say I am extremely impressed with your work. Great job.
  10. You might just try getting a car from the west coast. As for getting a car with rust, in my experience, if it has some rust at first sight, there's probably more you will find later. Can you weld or fabricate? If not, can you afford to pay someone else? Also, stony (username on here) I think still has a 260z drag car for sale as a roller. It was listed around $5000, I think. It's a bit above your budget but would be a GREAT head start to your project if you can afford a little more for a better start. BTW, you were probably asked to accept the rules when you registered, so please don't tell us you don't know the rules. If not, here they are: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=boardrules There's a link to them in the top right corner next to "View New Content."
  11. The door and skin don't separate. Getting the window out is a PITA. IIRC, you must first remove the SS frame, and from there it should go much more smoothly. Check your FSM.
  12. I don't think a flat anything would fit in the engine bay, width-wise.
  13. Subtle Z does not used the stock air dam. It uses an air dam that seems to be modeled after the popular xenon airdam that MSA offers though.

  15. Looks like a fiberglass dash. http://www.pdkfabrication.com/Dash.htm
  16. Got the bug to work on this thing again, and made a little progress since my last update. - Did an electric fan conversion, since my radiator came with one. Why not? - Installed said radiator, and new hoses (which did NOT fit out of the box). - Fuel system is all done as of today. - Driveshaft is in. - Cleaned the interior a bit... including a mouse nest I found in the rocker. - Put on some snowflakes with good tires from my parts car. - Put on a spare door to fix my door alignment problem... the bad news is that it didn't fix it, so now I've got a real problem, and NO idea what the hell is wrong. - Got a new wiring harness, correct for my car, so it will plug right in with no problems as soon as I fix a burnt wire or two. - Found more rust, but also found solid metal where I didn't expect there to be. I guess that's good? Not a lot, but it's something. However, there is bad news. As mentioned, I keep finding more and more rust, and basically I've decided not to use this shell. I will get it driving and all the necessary things functional, but only so that I have a Z to drive while looking for a better shell. If anyone wants this shell, I'll be selling it as a roller, and probably pretty cheap. It is in fact salvageable, but it would be a bit of a pain in the ass to fix it, since it has rusted in a lot of hard to fix areas, although where it has rusted is generally not very serious. Lots of bubbling and pitting, but there are also some holes. It would be a good welding project for someone who wants to put in the work. It's not for sale yet, but if someone wants to get their foot in the door, feel free to PM me. Onto a few more recent pics, although not much has changed.
