  1. Very quiet inside. Depends on interior insulation and muffler choice. No problems in ten years. WOT is very loud. But I seldom use WOT. Video:
  2. What year 240Z, 260Z, 280Z? Topic has been covered extensively. Search the forums. Could be the combination/turn signal switch. Suggest that you search "turn signal switch repair" etc. Could be a simple loose wire or burned out bulb. Down load the electrical schematic for your car (available here or at other websites). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exeIsC70F_o https://fiddlingwithzcars.wordpress.com/2012/12/04/turn-signal-repair/ https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34330-72-240z-turn-signal-stoped-workining/ https://fiddlingwithzcars.wordpress.com/2013/01/20/hazard-switch-brake-light-turn-signal-circuit-analysis/

  4. Check out the rear springs, take some pictures, and post your findings here. The previous owner may have cut the springs, installed softer, or progressive rate, springs etc. At some point you may want to rebuild/upgrade the stock suspension: shocks, springs, polyurethane bushings, insulators etc. Makes for a huge improvement in handling and ride. Recommend stiffer springs that maintain stock ride height for a street car. The 240Z is low enough.
  5. Confirm that the connections on the ballast resistor, coil and distributor are clean and snug.

  7. Not sure how you arrived at Toyota front and back. Won't work. The Toyota calipers only go on the front because they have no parking brake function. The 240SX calipers have a parking brake function. So they only go on the back.
  8. Yep. It is possible that having the car on jack stands may be twisting the body. Another possibility is that the car has been in a wreck in the past. Try putting the car on the ground and test fit the part. Also, post pictures of where the part isn't fitting etc
  9. The problem with Hawk and Porterfield "street pads" is that they lack cold bite for daily driving. Both brands were like blocks of wood when cold driving in stop and go traffic. Freeway driving was out of the question. I switched back to stock pads and shoes from my local Nissan dealership for several years. In 2009 I experimented with several of the popular brake swaps and ended up with Toyota solid front calipers, 79 280ZX MC, 280Z booster (nice) 240SX rear calipers with Axxis ULT pads all around. This set up worked fine for a daily driver and some mountain driving. But I kept looking for a better street pad. In 2017 I replaced the Axxis ULT pads with Carbotech AX6 pads. Very noticeable improvement. No more tweaking pad material. https://ctbrakes.com/
  10. Zero noise. Lots of initial dust, but I dont care. I abused the pads until they smoked and no fade. Try them.
  11. What to do about Z brakes? "The stock Z brakes are adequate for street driving, autox, and drag racing. The stock Z brakes are adequate for street driving, autox, and drag racing. This is not a joke. Even with a V8 or turbo pushing lots of hp; The stock Z brakes are adequate for street driving, autox, and drag racing." - JMortenson Experiment with pad and shoe materials. After experimenting with all of the popular brake pads such as Hawk, Porterfield etc. I prefer Carbotech AX6 material. Excellent cold bite that grabs hard the hotter the pads get.
  12. Clutch parts land bell housing parts used for 1989 Camaro WC T5 installation Doesn't matter where you buy the parts. In the past I have used Carquest and Napa stock clutch kits Bell housing: use a 1989 Camaro V8 bell housing. It has a 15 deg tilt to the driver's side. If you use any other bell housing you will have to make a mount designed to deal with the 15 deg tilt. Shifter comes up in the stock hole, but tilted to the left requiring notching the tunnel next to the shifter a small amount. 13. Budget Build You can build a reliable daily driver following the JTR V8 conversion manual for not a lot of money. Basic daily driver swap: Stock SBC engine. JTR, MSA and John's Cars sell swap kits. Each has good and bad points. Do a search before you buy. Keep stock R180 differential Camaro WC T5 five speed transmission. Speedometer drive gear has to be changed to match the differential ratio if you keep the stock speedometer. Ref JTR Rebuild stock brake system and install braided SS brake hoses. Suggest Carbotech AX6 pads and shoes. Stock brakes are fine - see brake FAQs Replace shocks/struts e.g., Tokico Replace stock suspension bushings with polyurethane bushings. Replace sagging springs with stiffer springs that maintain stock ride height. Front 180lb/in Rear 200lb/in to 280lb/in. Install an aluminum radiator. Stock mechanical fan is ok. Do the basic things to make the car safe and reliable and then drive it. Read the JTR manual at least five times and study Hybridz V8 swaps until your eyeballs fall out. Start with an unmolested Z car with minimum rust.

  18. Why not just buy a 300ZX? Seems to meet your criteria. The S30 series (240Z, 260Z, 280Z) was designed as a sports car. It was expected to be light weight, simple and Spartan. There are some simple things you can do to make the car ride and perform better for not a lot of money: 1. Suspension: Stiffer springs e. g. 180 lb/in front 280 lb/in rear. Keep the stock ride height. Replace all of the factory bushings with polyurethane bushings Install better shocks e.g., Tokico blues 2. Interior: Install sound/heat attenuation materials: Dynamat/Be Cool mat and reflective thermal fiber mat Install the full carpet kit available from MSA (further reduces heat and sound) Upholster the door cards to reduce sound Install better seats Install a sound system 3. Brakes: Leave stock, but rebuild as needed and use Carbotech AX6 brake pads and shoes. 4. Exterior: Tint the windows 5. Electrical: Install the headlight relay kit designed by a HybridZ member (Dave) and sold at MSA. Saves the headlight switch and allows higher wattage bulbs in an H4 housing
  19. Just go to a parts store and ask for heat riser flex tube of the correct diameter. Summit Racing probably sells the flex tube as well.

  23. Nobody is going to respond to this. Do the following: Read all of the new member FAQs as required by HybridZ rules. Nobody can diagnose your problem without knowing the year, make and model of the car. Also, state any modifications to the car. Spend some time searching HybridZ and then re-write your description of the problem. Use the edit function on your post and re-write it. Download a copy of the Factory Service Manual (FSM) for your car. The FSM is available on HybridZ. Search before asking questions. Members respond better to informed questions.
