  1. It's finally starting to thaw in the mid-west. Sort of. I'm pretty excited to come out of hibernation.
  2. Putting a 4V 4.6 into a Z is closer to 100lbs of crap in a 5lb bag. My respect to those who accomplish it.
  3. You also have to think about what you're doing with it. The advantage of cute lil' ports especially on the exhaust side is that port velocity will be high. This leads to lots of nifty off idle response and it will spool a turbo a little quicker than a comparative head with bigger flow numbers. That means that below 5grand (where you spend 90% of your time, well for some people it's more like 30% of the time, but to each their own) everything runs better and it will hustle the car a little better than a monster flowing head at the same RPMS.

  6. Um, we might be able to help more if we knew what the flywheel goes on. Since you said they're GM pt #'s, I'm guessing SBC?
  7. IIRC the tranny gasket isn't a "gasket" per-se but rather a bit of sealant which more or less glues the thing down there. When I re-did my T5, I used Rizoline to re-seal it and have had zero issues to this point. Please though, don't try and take the top cover off without pulling the tailshaft first. And don't try and take the tail shaft out without pulling all this shifter parts out first. It will break things. Don't ask how I know.

If you notice I think he copied a bunch of key word searches and stuffed them together as there is a substantial amount of duplication. BTW, that was 4 solid pages of search refrences on MS Word. That's a bit obscene.

  14. You could just get a KA24E pump. That's what I'm running and IIRC it's the same as the turbo pump (when I pulled it apart the barrel lengths were the same). You could then just put the comp springs in as I did.

  17. It was a .99 head but the .94 is the same head. the .98 has a side water exit and would be easier to deal with timing as well since it uses a tensioner on that side as opposed to a timing rail. Hope this helps. They all use 14mm head bolts which means you can get some sleeves made to use the Z head bolts (you'll want the long ones that shoot through the cam towers as well) Edit: I have some pretty good information here: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=269449 that I've amassed before some people went off topic with a whole bunch of benchracing and general Mercedes-Benz idiocy.
  18. Personally I think it's a good motor, but like copperdatsun said it has its flaws. But given the fact that it has a strong cast aluminum block (much stronger than the sand cast SR unit but lighter) with a taller deck height and, imo a fantastic head design, there is a great deal of potential there. Sure you may have to sleeve it like a honda or the VQ after a certain hp number, but you'll have to dry sleeve an SR as well at some point. Then again, I don't think the SR is that great of a motor... At least no where near the immortality the S chassis gentlemen have given it.
  19. Personally the thing I'm looking forward to is individual cylinder trim, since uneven intake flow is an issue on most motors.
  20. Yeah it had an oil consumption issue, so did the VQ35. It also has a great flowing head, better than the SR's (maybe not the VE's) and like it's been said, they're a dime a dozen these days. Let the QR attack begin.
  21. Which transmission do you have? Those mph/rpm numbers look very similar to my T-5/3.54 setup which I'm a fan of for highway driving. It doesn't take too long to pull the rear cover and it's the best way to ID one. It will have the teeth numbers stamped on the ring gear on the outside edge near the mounting surface. Once you figure out what ratio you have and what you'd like to get, just go to the diff stickey in the drive train section to figure out what car to pull a diff from to get what you'd like.
