  1. While I'm not the oldest person on here, of all the people in the racing community I talk to and PCA members, I have NEVER heard of anybody destroying a Porsche CV. Put those on and forget about them, just clean and repack when the rubber starts to go. I wish I knew about these before I started swapping an entire subframe from another car onto my Z. -Ed
  2. Looking to fix the Z and go with some coil packs and a trigger wheel. I was thinking about using the DIYautotune trigger wheel and spacer, sourcing a pickup from some spare parts I have. Looking at using coil pack from a ford taurus SHO or possibly the older style "prong" coil packs. Probably going to source off ebay. are the SHO packs pretty reliable? Is this the easiest cheapest route to go? -Ed
  3. I may be a little late in responding but I would strongly advise you to reconsider the 20 over. The KA24de is already an over bored motor and if you plan on making 400-500 hp I would NOT bore it out any more than absolutely necessary. Also check out AMS for rods, cheap and rock solid.
  4. That looks expensive.... I'm very jealous.
  5. Since you want to use a short diff anyway... you might aswell swap in an s13 or s14 subframe. Then you q45 diff will bolt right up , swap the axles to the q45, then you have rear disc with ebrake, multilink rear suspension, and might be able to use a sold 240 driveshaft since your using the same trans. Atleast that was my logic and the reason i'm swapping in an s14 subframe. -Ed
  6. I wouldn't use it around the engine bay, mine started melting. Just FYI (I'm not turbo either, just NA)
  7. telephone has some junkyards too but that can be a rough area. I think there is a pick and pull off tidwell, I've gotten 2 from there 50 bucks a pop. (my friend picked them up so not positive on the location) Ollie is a member on here and lives on the South side, maybe he knows the manual repair shop. I know of a good race shop up here on the NOrth side but they wanted like 600 bucks to do it. I laughed and haven't been back since.
  8. If you have one let me know... I'd like to borrow it, other wise it's gonna be a long night of baseball bats, hammers, and gas pipe. -Ed
  9. maybe somebody could help me out here, I've seen them before but I can't seem to find what I"m looking for now. Not looking for the cheap plastic wiring loom, looking for a knitted sock almost that the wires slide into, last one I saw was black, provides heat protection as well. I need it for our 911 project, temps get a little toasty back there in that little bay. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks, -Ed
  10. that answers my next question I had lol. Thanks for posting the mounting pic. I guess I'll start pricing bar stock. -Ed
  11. Well I already have a spare block and head for my KA and Ross forged pistons. So I'll just finish what I started and build it up and use a holset HY35 on it.
  12. motor is pending sale, thanks anyways guys. I'll let somebody else pioneer this one, looks like KA-T for me. -Ed
  13. It's starting to sound like this motor is a big waste of time and money. Would a 2mm overbore amount to any decent power gain? I know the ka24de uses 89mm pistons in it. I think the Altima does as well. Not going to stick a 100lb heavier motor in my car unless I'm getting a substantial power gain from it. Makes sense right?
  14. I've never heard of sonic testing, can a typical machine shop do this? Sounds like xraying the block almost.
  15. Ok guys I'm having some problems sourcing the information I once came upon less than a month ago. Originally I wannted to TT the NA VG30DE motor I have, upon thinking it would be a bad idea for my daily driver and turbo prices on the rise, I wanted to go NA. I read somewhere you could punch out the 3.0L to 3.3 or 3.4L with Q45 pistons and this would be good for 250hp to the ground. If this is true, great fantastic sign me up. However I can't find much on this rummor. Stock bore is 87mm and I think Q45 is only 88mm if i'm not mistaken, I can't see gaining that much hp from 1mm over bore. Also... If you can bore out this block and use another Nissan piston to make more power, how do you deal with the headgasket? I've never done an over bore on a motor. I just want to make like 240 to the ground, this motor is going in my 240sx and it's mainly going to be a drift queen/ daily driver. If I can make that much, that would over come the weight penatly I'll have for swapping in this motor. -Ed EDIT found this thread http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=116222 So If I understand this properly, I can use the pistons form the VE33 and put them in my VG30DE and bore it out to accept the (91mm?) pistons from the other motor?
  16. yeah they do make RWD conversion kits for the subbies, but the prices is like 3k I know subby used an r180, did they use an R200 as well?
  17. I wanted to do something similar, always wanted to put an EJ in my Z or 240sx, the price of the motor turned me away and the tranny problem is a huge one. Good Luck to you, it will be a long unpaved road ahead. It will be worth it though if you can pioneer the swap! -Ed
  18. stay with DETT head and intake plenum, those were specifically designed for that motor, one of the few engines Nissan actually engineered the intake and tested it before producing it. They designed it for high low end torque but without compromising much up top.
  19. I agree I'm still trying to find a source on these. I think I'm going to have to have some custom machined. Sucks.
  20. just wanted to let you guys in on a little secret I found. The bellhousing off a z31 tranny N/A (not turbo) will work, the z31 tranny will bolt up, but if you want to use the SR tranny, just swap the housing off the z31 onto the SR and voila! SR, KA, Z31 all the same tranny.
  21. 80 grit sandpaper and suck it up. lol that'll cut through real quick. Or rub with lacquer thinner, but that could take a while.
  22. We actually made some bowls back in highschool with some 1/4" plastic. Not sure if it was plexi or lexan though but we heated it in a little oven they had then placed it over 4 wooden dowls, then used a wooden top piece and pressed in the center, it made it form a bowl. Was pretty cool. We did some vacumn forming as well.
  23. I don't believe those wheels come in that offset. Our sponsor sells Tenzo R wheels and the offsets where all crappy for our 03 Z so we went a different route.
  24. Ok, so it seems all the fluke things happen to my wife and I and today lived up to that. Jenna got home and it's been storming here for hours almost since 3:30 or 4pm she went up stairs to plug in her laptop. The cord was not plugged into the lap top and she was plugging in the 3 prong part of the cord into the wall outlet. While doing so caused an arc from the outlet to the plug and her left arm. There are scorch marks on the outlet, on the 3 prong part of the plug and on the end that would go into the laptop (as if the current flowed through it and exited into the carpet or something. However no visible burn marks on her hand or the carpet or anywhere else. So I called the landlord immediatly as we lease the townhouse here. He came over and basically tried to blame it on the laptop cord. Told me his buddy was going to fix the outlet saturday and that he was sorry the cord was fried. Well I was a little upset as he had no concern for my wife or the damage to our property cause by improper grounding in the townhouse. I asked him who was going to pay for the cord and he starting talking BS to get out of it. Told me he would contact me saturday to replace the outlet at which point I said I'm taking my wife to the doctor tomorrow to make sure nothing is wrong (implying serious injuries occured from his faulty outlet) Then they left. About 25min later he calls me back told me he is contacting the manufacturer of the townhouse and they will be calling me to arrange an appointment (I like this idea then I can get document proof of damages and hopefully a liscensed electrician) then informed me he contacted the owner of the property and if I wanted to call 911 he would come back to the property and go to the hospital with us. (Real smartass we don't like this guy) So I said I work at the hospital I'll take her in the morning (going into the ER right now they wouldn't look at her till the morning anyway as it would be considered non "life threatening" and I don't want to spend my evening in the place i work anyway) So.... my question is. What are the proper steps to form a lawsuit against the owner for negligence on the proper under tort law? Should I seek a lawyer immediatley or can this be handled in small claims? I have photos of everything we are writting a written letter tomorrow so we have a "paper trail" and of course I have the scorched laptop cord. Do I call my insurance company for the property and seek legal action through them or? Not quite sure who I shold contact here. Thanks for any help and or comments. -Ed EDIT I forgot to mentino the entire left side of her body hurts now and her left arm is numb and hurts to move.
