  1. hehe I figured with how you drive, your diesel terbeaux shouldn't be going the way of your late T3. I forgot to call you yesterday >_< I'll try to make it over today so I can hear that diff.
  2. Yep. Just sold the Z31 Turbo and cannabalized the funds for my S30 and Subaru. They are really fun cars though. I do know the car in your sig is not your car
  3. Nice GC!!! I'm trying to get my 96 Impreza OBS Wagon running/driving by mid-May, and it has no motor, tranny, diff or CVs, AND I still have to pull the current harness and convert it to OBD1. [i'm throwing a 91 EJ22/5MT into the OBS to be a rallyX/autoX project and hopefully a daily driver] You can do it! Get on AIM if you want to chat it up, maybe you can teach me something about these Subarus.
  4. Doesn't meet your requirements, but... 04/05 STi. Don't even think twice It makes up for being under the reqs because A: it's gorgeous, best looking STi of all time B: tonnes out of the box fun
  5. I just don't understand why you would want to have two RWD higher HP [relatively ] cars. I would suggest getting something cheap, reliable [you don't want to spend Z time working on your DD] and just fun/comfortable to drive around in. It also gives you more incentive to drive the Z if it's boring I loved my Z31 but it just ended up being something that I wanted to dump money into, and eventually it started having the problems an 86 turbo car gets at 150,000 miles. Oh and something that good gas mileage if you're into that whole thing
  6. For sure get the 83 running first. If you don't and something goes wrong, you won't know if it's the harness adaptation or a component issue.
  7. Pics. *edit* I just found out today I'll be in SCCA SSM class This will be a long season heh.
  8. Yeah, my spark tables are embarrassingly low. I know there is quite a lot of power lurking in my timing, so I'm excited to see the gains. First regional SCCA event is this weekend, so I'll be busy working on that, maybe next weekend I'll get some time to swap the L28ET long block in. Shouldn't take too long.
  9. My motor is smoking hardcore and using a TON of oil. Went from just over the H to under the L on the dipstick in maybe 100 - 150 miles. I'm going to pull my plugs again, but 4 of them were oily when I pulled them a couple of days ago. It is smoking white out of the tailpipe at idle, which I think wouldn't happen if it was the turbo. I'm going to swap in my L28ET. It *could* be the turbo, but it doesn't have any additional shaft play, and I want to put the lower comp motor in there. I was planning on doing it before Branson Z Fest anyways. My Magnecor KV85s came in yesterday. New BF Goodrich G-Force Sports are sitting in a stack at the house. I'll get pictures of them installed soon. I'll be ordering the HLSD when I get the rest of the money for the Z31.
  10. Fixed The single cam VG30E/VG30ET is not bad and can make decent power. I couldn't get my Z31 out of my parent's driveway when it snowed/iced earlier this year so I won't be caught with my pants down again [i do realise you are in California, but off-roading is ReALLY fun] Yeah you should stay away from those Merc motors.
  11. Having two 2WD cars is daft. Ask me how I know. Go with a Subaru You can pick up an Impreza for pretty cheap, they come in 5 speed, and you can go play on the dirt/off road when you are bored or it is raining. They are light [first gen Imprezas - 93-01 weigh ~2700 lbs] and are VERY easy to work on. They have a rear diff that is a miniature version of our R200s, have clip in axles, etc etc. The motor is right up front and can be pulled in no time if need be. You could probably get a 2.5 RS for $3k. They handle really really well on tarmac. The RS's have LSDs as well
  12. I'm getting the same on my F54/P79 NA>T with a 3" open exhaust off a 2.5" MSA DP. Creep up to about 11 psi. I know one of my wastegate bolts is really loose, but I'd assume it's because of the open exhaust.
  13. Cheap and fast? I want a low-maintenance super model girlfriend. It's not happening. ^^ Very sound advice.
  14. Where is the midwest, seeing as you don't have a location in your profile?
  15. Your cylinder compression seems within close range of each other? I'd swap in a new 255 before pulling the head... You aren't getting proper fuel pressure it seems. Pull the filter and see if it has any rust/crap in it. My walboro's filter got clogged and made my car run lean under boost o_o It runs 40 without a vac ref at idle but I think the clogged filter might have killed it. It's much quieter now which is scary. I am loosing power up top and I think I might be running lean [still working out wideband issues ]. I need to pull the pump sometime this week and see if there is something in the pump.
  16. What FPR are you using? Mine is 36 vac ref'd and 40 with it unplugged.
  17. haha. I am a LSD newb. Not for long though Of course, you did tell him it was a clutch type LSD in your for sale ad and he took it apart to rebuild it as such. You tried to sell that same diff to me as a clutch type. If I would have bought it from you I would have done the exact same thing to replace the clutches. He wouldn't have needed to do it he would have known it was a viscous type.
  18. I"m shooting for 300WHP with my Turbo L6. It's probably a bit overkill for what my car is mainly used for. My main motivation is keeping up with my friends with F-Body/LSX cars. On our cruises we go on, my 78 is just about right where I'm at right now. [L28>T @ 10 psi] I would imagine I have about 200-220RWHP. I didn't even touch power mods before the car was reliable and had a decent suspension on it. [Poly bushing, tokico red springs, HP blue struts, ST front sway] Get to know the car and make sure it handles well. Like the guys are saying, 200WHP is "just right" for most street applications, it's just the speed junky in us that wants more.
  19. I would for sure check your fusible links. They gave me a ton of problems like you are describing. I ended up converting to Scoche amp fuses and all my electrical problems went away. http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/fusiblelinks/index.html
  20. Not a whole lot as it's just for convenience. I was hoping someone had a junk one laying around that I could grab on the cheap. How much did you want for yours?
  21. I would like to get a R200 pumpkin for my HLSD swap so I don't have to have the car down for the install. The diff itself is not necessary. I really don't want to go any higher than 3.54, But 3.7 is the highest I would go.
  22. Going to need some details on your setup [Motor, spark control, etc]. Also, has the car run before or is this an initial install?
  23. Nah.... Just get some FR500s Or some Cobra Wheels. IDK why but Mustang wheels look great on these cars.
  24. I thought people needed the half shafts as well because the CLSDs were 5 bolt? I could be wrong there, I apologize if I am. Doesn't change the fact that it is a Viscous unit.
  25. It's not what you prefer, but the seller DID say it was a clutch type LSD in the ad. That is what entitles you to a partial refund. The seller [and you, as an educated buyer] should have noticed from the axles [4 bolt in stead of 5] as the VLSD unit from the 88s.
