  1. I've tried to make this public info on here, maybe the search engine isn't picking it up. If you buy the clutch master cylinder from AutoZone, you MUST put your stock rod back in the re-manned MC. There is a C-clip that you need to take out, otherwise it's really easy. Just pop the black boot off and you'll see the clip. Even with the new rod adjusted all the way out, my slave cyl wouldn't fully release the clutch PP. I told a manager I know at AutoZone about the problem and he said there's not much he can do about it. You get what you pay for. [it's really cheap and has a lifetime warranty]
  2. The Great Debate: B for sure. A is a no-go. Why was there no commentary on the picture of Zoolander she had on her bed/desk thing? BTW does she know you [like the rest of us] are unhealthily obsessed with old rusty Datsuns? Best let her know before it surprises her. And guys... I don't think this is a romantic relationship. Which would make this whole conversation really awkward.
  3. If you have coolant coming out of your valve seal, you've got some major problems... Phil, why do you think it's not the turbo?
  4. That's a good one... "I used to have a 1982 280ZX N/A JUST like your little Datsun there!!"
  5. 1981s had a sensor and teethed wheel on the crank pulley. This one says 1982-1983, Sub-Model Turbocharged. http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/details/QQNissanQQ280ZXQQBeck_ArnleyQQDistributorQQ19811983QQ185-0309.html I think that one is going to be the one your looking for.
  6. Daniel, What fuel rail do you use? I keep hearing about vapor lock/hot start issues, and I have never had that problem. I think I should, as I'm running no heat shield, a non-webbed shaved mani, and a turbo. My N/A L28 Turbo has a Pallnet-style o-ring rail made out of aluminium fuel stock [compliments of XNKE], using Denso INP-008 injectors. I wonder if it can dissipate heat better, which is staving off the hot start issues? I've always thought my car should do this as compared to other Zs. I'm also running an electric fan. Previously I lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, now I live in Arkansas - it gets up to the mid-90s + regularly during the summer. If the rail itself is preventing the hot start issues, maybe converting will help others.
  7. I looked into the VH45/VK56 for stock power numbers a few weeks ago [trying to stay out of XP] but there really isn't an advantage for that over other popular options. Let's even leave out the fantastic $$/HP ratio of the LSX, etc. The VQ35 [Nissan 350Z (287 to 300 hp)] makes more power than a VH45 [Q45, 278 hp (207 kW), 294 lb·ft (399 N·m)] and only slightly less than a VK56 [FX45, 315 hp (235 kW) and 446 N·m (329 ft·lbf)] So... think about aftermarket support. Are companies going to make parts for a 350Z or a Infinity truck? The aftermarket is severely lacking. Also, 350Zs donor cars give you much better tranny options, and there is a vendor on here that makes a S30 mount for a VQ35 swap. I think I'm going to go with a VG30ET if/when I ditch the L28.
  8. Good call, Jake - I've got some near-slick yokos on an extra set of rims, begging to be burned off. I was thinking something along the lines of a filmed/timed competition for setting valve lash or pulling/replacing a tranny or engine. I think I'm down to about 2.5 hours for a tranny swap
  9. I appreciate that you have done research, but come on... You do NOT need to change internals on an L28 for less than 400HP. If you blow it up, just get another stock block, they are super cheap. Example: Big-Phil is daily driving his car AFAIK and it dyno'd ~390WHP ~410WTQ on a stock L28ET. [stock long block, that is] Try this on for size [A guy asking the same question you are] http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?/topic/61508-convert-na-to-turbo-change-pistons/page__p__566580__hl__na+to+turbo+change+pistons__fromsearch__1#entry566580 [bTW I'm running a "high compression" N/A motor with a thinner 1mm head gasket]
  10. Best? 3" [Read this about "best:" http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=boardrules] You need to put a location in your profile as well.
  11. Awesome news! Your car makes me consider keeping my L28. Who needs more than 400WTQ anyways? Any dyno trips planned?
  12. 82-83 CAS Dizzy is going to be "easiest" [because that is what is most popular]. You need the Turbo one, the N/A F54 dizzy is the E12-60 unit. You need an LC-1 Controller AND LSU-4 Sensor. [super cheap LSU-4 wideband sensor - go to AutoZone and look up a O2 sensor for a Audi TT, it's $55 8) ] I've been having issues with my LC-1, I know for a fact XNKE had to get his replaced as well. I've just heard bad things about them. You might consider doing a PLX or other than Innovate controller, maybe do some google searching about it. Now might be a good time to convert to one of your shaved manifolds, ported out to 60mm I went to a cable throttle setup, it's much more responsive than the mech linkage. Might consider it, plus that solves the "240SX TPS" issue. I got my board assembled. I didn't have time to mess with it and I was frustrated dealing with other issues. If you do go pre-assembled, go with the V3.0 board, NOT the V3.57 - if something goes wrong on my main board, A: I can't see it and B: I can't fix it. The 3.0 board has 'floating' components. If they burn out, you should probably be able to inspect them for damage. Why do you want to mess with the stock harness? I feel that it's going to be a major headache, but I applaud your tenacity

  14. I'm surprised there were no "MatteBlack" jokes. My friends seem to get a kick out of it
  15. I get it, as soon as your donation runs out, you're back to "coach." Dan told me not to donate until the new site thing was set up and I forgot Next paycheck, I promise
  16. BRAAP!!! That's not what I axed for *edit* Close, but no cigar...
  17. It wasn't hitting the bellhousing, I had a "doh" moment and didn't realise it until I pulled the tranny again I am very happy with my DXD South Bend Clutch, firm, crisp engagement, greater pedal feel, and it is holding up well to the abuse I am giving it.
  18. I forgot throw out bearing "collar" Also, I don't know how you 'adjusted' the slave, it's got two bolts and shouldn't move at all once installed. I would suggest replacing the slave as well and re-bleeding it.
  19. L28ET/240mm clutch + S30 tranny = needs a 280ZX turbo throw out bearing. I'm not going to search for you but it's posted up in at least two threads I've started [plus many others]
  20. I guess, but the quote in my previous thread actually had "LC-1" in it, which would lead me to believe the search engine would recognise it. Hmmph
  21. Seriously, I've never laughed so hard at a television show before. My sides were hurting when I watched it Monday
  22. Haha. I feel a bit sheepish. I kept typing in "LC-1" because that's how I write it. "LC1" [No hyphen] delivered many results. Not sure why it won't recognise the hyphen. Why wouldn't it find that?
  23. Well they are suspiciously quiet on this matter...
