  1. How to use the Hybrid Z . org search function: Click "Advanced Search" Scroll down and select the "Turbocharger" forum to narrow down your results. Next, type in "water cooled turbo" And.... Voila!! A detailed thread explaining different ways to route your coolant for your turbo, no way!! http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=91519&highlight=water+cooled+turbo
  2. I'd also agree with keeping it: * You're never going to get all of you money back out of it * In stock form they are cheap and easy to maintain * You won't have to go through the stresses of selling your baby, find another car, buy it, title it, etc etc. * Driving a practical car is very overrated and you can do it when you're old and married. We're still in school, it's okay to make dumb decisions [i often wonder why I have two 2-seater coupes.] Honestly, if it were me, I would just throw another long block in there and call it a day.
  3. Read: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=150869&highlight=LS3 Cutting some cost? Do you really know what you're getting into with this swap? Anyways, I would suggest getting an LS3 out of a wrecked car like NESS did, and using the stock PCM. They have Coil on Plug ignition [awesome!!] and from what my friends tell me, HPTuners and EFILive both do really well for tuning the stock stuff. Good luck, I'm jealous, this is one of my dream projects

  5. Would be good to note that Standard is only 12x12 tables whereas MSnSE is 16x16. I would recommend checking out MSefi.com and MSextra.com to learn more of the differences. Once again there is a ton of information to cover before you even get started.
  6. Hey I was reading an old thread about Tuner Studio, Matt Cramer said that TS has auto port check. Are you using MegaTune or Tuner Studio?
  7. I'll agree with Daniel but I really haven't used Tuner Studio much. I initially used MegaTune to setup my settings, but I've heard much better things about TS. Also, MegaTune will lock up my Compaq Presario laptop every time I datalog with the computer in the car. I can save it and everything, it just won't let me close the program afterwords, which is really annoying. Search > Advanced Search > MegaSquirt Forum > "Tuner Studio" got me this http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=154300&highlight=tuner+studio
  8. Did you fix your tach issue or did it just go away? I found my thread from when I was having issues with the stock EFI. Those pesky fusible links... http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=141987
  9. AFAIK all North American 280Zs with EFI have baffled tanks, the issue would be the rear deck area, which varied from the early 280Z [75 and 76] to the late 280Z [77 and 78] Went digging and found these: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=103464&highlight=240Z+efi+fuel+tank+280Z http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=95027&highlight=240Z+efi+fuel+tank+280Z Those threads say the early 280Z tank will fit into the 240Z. Honestly though it might be a better idea to set up a surge tank and call it a day with your 240Z tank, might save you some money and a headache. I've never done one though. *edit* Found this one too: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=97211&highlight=240Z+efi+fuel+tank+280Z Interesting...
  10. Have you run the port check yet? That might fix the communication issues with your other laptops. MS will only recognize my Compaq through one USB port and I have three. If you still can't fix it, just throw the MSQ onto a jump drive, I'm thinking your timing has to be pretty far off and you "tune" needs to be seen if anyone is goign to help you out.
  11. Not trying to be an arse, but seriously you need to read this once or twice to fully understand getting it up and running. http://www.megamanual.com/index.html It will tell you about the GM sensors and what Wideband sensors are compatible, low impedance injectors, etc. Search "Tuner Studio" here to find out what people think about it. Good luck.
  12. I really do admire your work, everything turns out great, and I've always wanted an LSX car!! [Hoping to do an LS3 swap after University] Can't wait to see what you do with this motor, and that reworked P90 is to die for [At least for us L6 folk haha].
  13. The internet was around in 1995??? Let's see I was.... about 8 years old at the time. I got on Z Car to mess with newbs but it wasn't really fun, just sad.
  14. Hello there. Go to your local auto parts store and get an inline fuel pressure gauge. Take off the fuel hose after your filter [i.e. in between in filter and fuel rail] and see what you are getting. That will tell you if your fuel pump is adequately fueling the injectors or not. That sounds like when my stock fuel pump starting going out, so that's a good hypothesis, but if you have around 36 psi it should be good. If not go read the EFI Bible and figure out what it is. As for the 'jumping' tach, my stock EFI did it as well, I can't remember if it was caused by my old fusible links, a backwards wired coil, or what - it has been a while.
  15. You haven't seen his other car I take it... Here is the original post for you to re-read: http://forums.hybridz.org/showpost.php?p=957509&postcount=1
  16. Do you have a proper boost gauge? How do you know "it boosts?" If you don't have an exhaust your turbo is going to sound loud but not might be making any positive mani pressure. My two cents - Ditch the old crap and go full stand alone ECU.
  17. The question was what was the original color and position of the wires coming out of the 82-83 CAS ZXT Dizzy. The "pinout" going into the ECU isn't necessary because it changes wire colors after the connector from the dizzy to the ZXT harness. I confirmed the above picture as it was on my running turbo car. There have been several posts saying you shouldn't post something you don't know 100%
  18. What kind of Fidanza?? This is a L28ET Fidanza [Part Number 143281]:
  19. I would like the new one to be able to look okay in other places, not just the 1/4 window. And personally I don't want a picture of a car on my car lol. http://8.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_kq9a0xZsgs1qzma4ho1_500.jpg
  20. Another setback. The 350Z pressure plate hits the 78 5 Speed bellhousing, so I'll be getting a different pressure plate [as long as it's 300 WTQ or more] or machining the bell housing to fit the pressure plate. *edit* I ground down the tranny housing and the pressure plate no longer hits, I got everything back together and started the car with no issues. The clutch feels much much better, too, I can't wait to try it out. We are having a nasty ice storm so I might have to wait a week or more to drive it :/ Big thanks to Chris [TrumpetRhapsody] and my roommate Nate for helping me. We did Chris' clutch swap yesterday in about 3 hours, then did mine today in about 2 and a half. We're getting pretty good at this
  21. Got my new clutch in yesterday, hit the starter switch and "clunk." The 350Z Pressure Plate South Bend sent me hits the 78 5 Speed Bell housing. I just sent an email, we'll see what happens next week I suppose. I prefer to have the 350Z Pressure plate as it's rated higher than an other of their organic discs, so I might try to find an extra bell housing and get it machined down. Anyone have a 5 Speed housing they want to get rid of? email me at flatblack280 at gmail dot com.
  22. I would also like a HybridZ decal but I didn't really like the old one. The only place you can really put it is the 1/4 window, and to be honest I just don't want that big of a decal. Just my 2 cents!
