  1. Reminds me of this tool for chevy manifolds, that had dimensional issues. http://www.amazon.com/Lisle-13000-Manifold-Spreader-Chevrolet/dp/B0009OR94W Never owned, or had to use one. But I'm thinking a common problem..........
  2. A website featuring the original factory brochures for nearly every American car you have ever owned. Pick the manufacturer, the year and the model. Enjoy! Note that Corvettes are in their own section, not under Chevrolet…. http://www.lov2xlr8.no/broch1.html
  3. Always did, never knew you could get a ticket!!! http://www.moveoveramerica.com/
  4. Compression ratio is of the utmost importance. The correct/ideal ratio is achieved by the selection of the pistons, and cylinder heads, head gaskets, etc......(combustion chamber cc's). So no...one size does not fit all.
  5. No,different, http://www.howstuffworks.com/turbo.htm
  6. If the shifter pivot pin didn't fall out, I would say your looking at a shift fork/syncro/blocker/detent problem. ALL INTERNAL, except for the detents. I would pull the trans and do the postmortem on the bench.
  7. Get a complete running engine. They're all over the place cheap. Don't let the summer go with the car on jack stands. Where are you located. If you're in the NJ area, I CAN HOOK YOU UP, open to trades.
  8. Ls1 Cop Camaro, 8K miles great swap deal. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-Chevrolet-Camaro-Z28-LS1-project-car-Only-8K-Miles_W0QQitemZ270503103759QQcmdZViewItemQQptZSalvage_Parts_Cars?hash=item3efb3dcd0f
  9. Just a thought here, and I may be way off base. I don't build race cars...yet What about using an engine sepentine belt, as a limiter, attatched to the strut body...has some benefits ....Just a thought
  10. Congrats Clive, I'm proud to know you/call you a friend. The lesson here,.... is to finish school, so you have those bills to pay....and reap the benefits of the schooling...... don't ask me how I know.
  11. Now .....A tech at a Toyota dealership. Should have been a Lawyer. 6 years at various automobile manufacturers, customer/technical positions. Engineering College. etc, etc, etc. ps.. stay in school.... get the degree.
  12. Another very useful "chemical" is sold by Wurth. HS 2000. This stuff is great. It is a colorless spray lubricant, that penetrates, and once the carrier has evaporated, leaves a tenacious, viscous lubricant behind. You can't beat this stuff(aka, the best) for hinges, pivots etc. GM has a version/private label equivelant of this stuff. Go buy a can today..you'll love this sh*t! http://www.paragon-products.com/product_p/wurth_hs2000.htm One more thing, 3M strip caulk (don't substitute cheap crap). Go buy a box, you can mount speakers, stop vibrations, stick on trim, another thing you should not be without. A blob sits on the top corner of my tool box. I use it every day. Holds bolts/nuts in sockets very nicely, and much more. http://autobodystore.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=3M8578&Category_Code=JASS 3M Strip-Calk 08578 Black 20 yards (60 Feet) 1 foot lengths This black, non-hardening, paintable caulk is just the solution for sealing irregular areas in firewalls around heater and air conditioner boxes, lines and wiring harness connectors. Also great for rocker panels, trunks, around tail lights, trim and emblem holes or just about anywhere gaps need to be plugged. Effectively seals out water, dust, and dirt. Duplicates the caulking material used by many auto manufacturers. Made in USA
  13. I've used Dielectric grease many times/many places/many years. NEVER had a problem. You metioned cap, rotor etc.You changed many things at once. How do you know the d grease was the culprit? I use it on light bulbs, trailer connectors, etc, etc, etc,. I don't thinkk the d grease was your problem. A difinitive answer would be good for all..........
  14. Dibs on a front row seat for the CSI/SWAT take down. Looking forward to the ballistics report.........
  15. FYI I work on new Toyotas all day long. I have seen a recent rash of marginal batteries, that seem to crank normaly.(I've been at this for many years, fooled me). But the measured voltage drop,(low) causes the computer to cut the ignition, in leui of the electric power steering. This can cause an extended crank or no start. COMPUTERS NEED PROPER VOLTAGE, PERIOD.
  16. Just in case you were not aware. There is a replaceable filter element in the bottom of the electric pump.
  17. Sorry to hear of your difficulties. Had a brief outage here.No work on Friday. On the way to work today, lots of trees down. Ask Clive if he can drop you a skywire......... PS...24 inches + here.
  18. Hopefuly you read the link I posted. Run on/dieseling is caused by many factors. IT IS THE SUM,of all the possible causes. Usualy, there is not one cause. Engine temp/high idle/low octane/carbon build up/high compression/lean fuel mixture/ etc. ......all have a cumulative effect to cause this malady. This is one reason, why idle kickers were put on early 70's cars to maintain idle speed.Turn off ignition, throttle closed, not enough air for engine run on.
  19. I remember early v12 jaguar engines had a vacuum hose to the distributor cap. This was to evacuate fuel vapors from the cap, preventing an explosion/ fire/ condensation. I'm betting your "episode" was a fuel leak, ignited by a spark plug wire,at the cap.......YOU ARE VERY LUCKY. I always have a fire extinguisher in the Datsun. I should put one in the DD Benz. See Grumpyvettes thread for additional reinforcement of this very usefull suggestion.... BTW........I have four in my home.........( my ex wife used the smoke alarm as a cooking aide)
  20. Post a picture of the injector/connector. I thought most bosch injectors were about the same......A picture would help. Also, let me know if they might be the same as a mid 90's Mercedes straight six EFI. I MIGHT have access to some.
  21. Hey Dan, Not meant as a complaint. I'm at the beginning of the new learning curve, and quite a bit disoriented. I'll get where I need to be. I guess I need to keep my mouth shut and start learning. Thanks for all your hard work on this transition....Tommy
  22. I'm havingf some difficulty. untitled.bmp
  23. I feel like Helen Keller after this change. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helen_Keller
  24. After 1.5 seconds, I KNEW, I couldn't read all of it. I gave up.Not interested.............sick mind.
