  1. I have often thought about putting a car on ebay with a ridiculous reserve, only to test the market, with no intentions of selling. Â For some reason it feels unethical to me. Â Is it acceptable to do this? Â Can it be done? Maybe it's just me. Â I would love to try it.
  2. Â On a lightly rusted panel with proper POR-15 bond, you will get 10+ years of normal use. Â On a sunny day car....maybe 20+ years. Â That stuff is tough, and bonds hard, to light rust. Â However, regular inspection is a good idea to catch any areas that might delaminate. Â
  3. Oh yeah the cities of Europe are also mostly boring to drive. Â It's just like driving in any other city, only somewhat more aggression is tolerated.. Â Choose a motorino instead. Â License difficult to get? Â I am ALL for that.Â
  4. Â Â I have spent plenty of time driving in Europe. Â I just always wish I had my Z with me and a fat wallet for fuel. Â I love the way cars are driven there. Â Much more respectful, with common sense, aggressively intelligent as opposed to dumb aggressive...if that makes sense. Â They also seem to take the responsibility much more seriously. Â Left lane is ONLY to pass. Â Passing on two lane roads is the responsibility of the driver, while other drivers assist with the pass by indicating, and making room. Â Here in US, other drivers attempt to block, and if you surprise them because they were on the phone, they just flip the bird. Â It always kills me when a US driver has time to lay on the horn but not enough time to react wisely, such as to brake or to move over to make room. Â Â
  5. I've flown into Zurich and railed it down to Milan once. Â That left a lasting impression. I have photos of my dad riding his motorcycle down Stelvio Pass with his snow skis strapped to the side of the bike. Â Yes, he rode his bike in the Alps to ski in the Winter...and we worry about all wheel drive. Here is a nice pic of Stelvio that I found in google.
  6. Â This is pretty much what I want to do if/when I get to retire. Â I would like to ship one of my Z's out to Milan where a good portion of my family lives, then follow it out with my wife. Â The we would spend a solid month tearing up the Alps, visiting all the bordering countries along the way. Â Here is a taste...one may dream.
  7. Water seeks its own level, so does quality, money, jobs...it's just how it works.  The largest problem with Chinese substitution of USA goods, is that in the past, many US based manufacturers had failed to set  up, and maintain proper overseas QA departments.  Engineering, materials, physics... all apply in China as well as anywhere else I can reach by ship.  It is the sellers responsibility to make sure the claimed standards are met, regardless of cost, or place of manufacture.  False claims and "shady marketing" should be nipped in the bud.
  8. Nice work Derek. Â You make the stuff from Unique Autosports, on TV, look like child's play.
  9. Â I remember looking inside my Canon manifold to see if the runners were connected for vacuum. Â Unfortunately, I don't remember what I saw (sucks getting old). Â I do know that I have plenty of brake boost and a dead smooth idle with the factory L28 cam. Â Bryan, here are the spacers with the proper spring washers. Â Email them to confirm thickness but I think they are all standard. http://compare.ebay....4=263602_304662 EDIT: Once again I am late to supper....glad you got a fix for it!
  10. Hmm, New Haven, CT. Â It gets cold there. Â You might want to find a work around if you like easy starts in the colder months. Â Maybe a set of anti-vibration mount spacers to set the carbs further back off the manifold. Â I don't have a picture in my head but maybe that would work? Â Yes, now I see your photos. Â It should work well. Â Besides, you probably SHOULD run the anti-vibe spacers with the o-rings and thackery washers. BTW, Hi Bryan!
  11. Check out EvilZ's car. Â It's pretty red.
  12. Lots of glue is there, gaps are tight, mostly covered with dead trees and pigments suspended in a volatile base for now. Â If the mice get in, they may be used to skin the shed. Â Good idea.
  13. Â Took election day off from carpentry but resumed today. Â I should be done with the doors tonight or tomorrow. I need to make sure the building doesn't shift, settle, or heave too much or I'll need a chainsaw to get the doors open. Â It's furniture precise.Â
  14. Out for a Fall drive and a photo in the leaves. Â
  15. Change it now. Â False economy not to.
  16. My good friend Tommy Sullivan just had his Celica published in Hemmings, and now Automobile. Â The latest one was a result of an encounter at one of the largest annual car shows in our area. Â Automobile Magazine - cover.pdf Automobile Magazine - page 1.pdf Automobile Magazine - page 2.pdf
  17. Â +1 for DCOE's they always get a bad rap but I think they are great. Â Engine sounds good. Â That is about the usual sound from the valves when making a video with most cameras. Sometimes holding your finger over the mic fixes the sound problem and makes the high frequencies sound more realistic.Â
  18. I wish! Â I have had access to all of those tools in past employment positions, used them often, but miss them dearly now.
  19. Â I just updated this thread for a better "penny pincher" fix! http://www.classiczc...ead.php?t=38373
  20. I was not a fan of dark red until I bought the oxidized 240Z which turned out to be a nice shade of Ford Medium Cabernet from the late 80's mustangs. Â I hated it on the stangs but really have grown to like it on the Z. Â I think dark green metallic is a perfect Z color. Â Keep us in the loop. Â Having a freshly painted Z is one of the most exciting things to look forward too.
  21. Â It's about 5'4" on the low side. Â Right now I am designing around the double bi-fold doors. Â Looks like a go.Â
  22. Â Roll up metal doors would take up too much headroom. Â It's a low ceiling, you can't really tell from the photos. Â I measured for the bifolds, and with the S30 in there I would be able to open up double bi-fold doors towards the inside of the shed. Â But if I parked a car that was any longer than an S30, the doors would interfere. Â However, with minimal excavation and re-grading it looks like I can build double bi-folds to work. Â I will need to take out about 5" of dirt on the high side to create a 24' x 90" level apron outside the shed. Â Then I will need to taper the hill into the flat area. Â It should work ok. Â Too bad the OBX LSD goes open when backing up the hill. Â Â Â I may need to back into the shed instead to gain the helical LSD advantage, when pulling out up the hill. Off to home depot...and a deli. Â
  23. Awesome ideas.  Tony you are correct that if there was condensation it would only be a problem when outdoor air got inside quickly.  But since I already wrote off the container for local aesthetic reasons, I am focusing on the remaining door design.  The Shed and the new extension on gravel will house both of my Z's full time, including Winter storage.  The cars will continue to be used until we get snow cover, and then will be used as soon as the ground is free of snow and salt.  They never really get put away for good, weather dependant.  The mice have been in the main shed and did do quite a number on the silver turbo car 2 years ago.  Since then, I have methodically sealed off the shed and have had zero rodent damage or evidence inside the shed.  The lower walls of this new extension on the left of the shed are hardie board (silica composite fiber cement) they will be buried into the ground and cemented where needed.  All the corners and joints will be block trimmed and metal screen will blend the inner walls down into the gravel.  Never say never, but I am betting they go pick on an easier target.  Especially since this is essentially, unheated space. I can't do a sliding door, like the old lead-gravity closing fire doors that are on tilted tracks, because the main shed face sits 6" forward of the new door, and there is the roof eave and terrain in the way on the left. I like the vertical bi-fold idea  for its simplicity, and love the aircraft hangar doors but I am not sure I want to give up the angled head space.  I am going to measure up to see how much swing I could tolerate with dual bifold doors.  My initial idea was to have a 3 section door.  A  one foot "castle gate" hinged on the bottom(or removable), that dropped down to act as a ramp, and then regular left and right hinged doors that swing out above the ramp. Its a 90" wide opening. Â
  24. In order to access this shed, I need to use my neighbors driveway. Â They have a beautiful log cabin home about 500 feet from this shed. Â They have a full view of my shed and they allow me to use their driveway, so I want something a bit more eye-candyish than a container. Â Although a container can be decorated with chili pepper lights too. Â I am also afraid of the thermal mass of a metal container resulting in heavy wall condensation. Â Not something I want my Z's near. Â The temp/humidity daily swings here are pretty wild. Â Great door ideas, Â need more! Â Think cheap and easy to fab.
