  1. I think the caption says it all. I qualified on the front row at the Wine Country Classic at Sears Point and the motor went during the warm-up before the race. A shattered wrist pin put a hole in the piston and pumped oil into the intake, turning it into an efficient smoke machine! I was flying thru the "esses" and couldn't see a dang thing! Couldn't even do an "Ace Ventura" and put my head out the window when strapped into a race seat! Major Bummer!
  2. Couple options at Sears. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_03450466000P?mv=rr http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_03450499000P?mv=rr
  3. You can forget doing a basic rebuild on that motor. You'd easily spend in the neighborhood of $2k to rebuild a stock L28. That last stock L16 I built for a friend's 510 was $1200 and I didn't charge much to put it all together. Parts, machine shop work, etc., you'll be much better off finding a running engine. You will need to do something with the tank & lines, as previously mentioned. It's not going to be cheap or easy, but a swap will most likely be the easiest route to go. Good luck!
  4. The diagram is for a 240Z with an R180. The pic I added above is with an R200 installed.
  5. I found out that you had to remove more than just the ears to install the 4L60E into my 280. I just a few inches of the original transmission ear bracing and bent it it, but not a ton once the bracing was removed. The trans crossmember mounted up perfectly and didn't have any problems with it. I was the first one to order a JCI kit for the automatic and John said that the trans crossmembers are the same no matter which transmission is used. The difference is for the 240 vs 280, but not the transmission. Anyway, it's all in and I just installed the driveline today, as it was about an inch shorter than it should have been, so John took care of having it redone. All good now!
  6. Many have to run the adapters to get a decent selection of wheels, since the RWD offset is getting rare and you can get anything in a Honda or other offset. I've run them for years on my 510 and now on the Z. I've seen them on many cars at the road course, too, so I have not issues with them. I've seen wheels fail more than failures from the adapters. That's my 2 cents.

    z32 diff

They are different, but they will mount into your Z with the MM conversion. Here's the thread. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=132062
  8. Do a search for "RT mount" or "Ron Tyler mount" and you'll find plenty of threads on it.
  9. It was most likely an early way to keep the front of the diff lifting and ripping the stock mount. Of course, the RT mount is the ultimate fix to that issue.
  10. Yes, you need to remove more than just the ears on your 280Z. I had the same issue when I went to put in my trans mount on my '78 280Z. I had to remove a few inches of the actual bracing the ears mounted to on the passenger side of the tunnel. I didn't have any issues once that small part was removed and I left the rest of it in there. Hope that helps.
  11. Yep, I've seen one before. We had two Zs attend the big Datsun Meet at Shasta about a decade ago. I remember the one having the BGN motor and the other had a supercharged SBC. The Grand National Z was almost a second fast (I believe an 8.5 sec 1/4 mile) than the V8 and it also got high 20s mpg on the road trip from up north. (I think Seattle or Canada?) I was a 510 guy at the time, so didn't really pay too much attention, but thought it was cool to be that fast and get good mileage. Might be someone who is on here. Wow, those were the days!
  12. Looks like the California Wing that I have on my car.
  13. Well, it depends on what you are really after. In the real world, torque is king! Period! My buddy ran a 400 SBC with only 285 HP but had 500 ft lbs of torque. It moves no matter what rpm, having a passenger has not affect and for autocross & daily driving, it's the way to go. If you are looking at a track car, a small turbo motor works well. I like power off idle, not a motor that has nothing under 4k rpm, but to each his own! I'd turbo the bigger motor!
  14. Or do the job at a friend's house who happens to have a plasma cutter. Takes a whole 5 minutes to remove both backing plates with one of those!
  15. My guess is that it might be from a Supra? Is it an LSD? It's been a decade since I've looked at one closely, but we were looking to see if they could be adapted to a 510 at the time. Hmm.
  16. A couple years ago, I was one of the few that had the luck to go with the BMW club on a private tour of this guy's car collection. Yes, he does have 2 Porsche Carrera GTs and YES, that's his daughter in the picture. The whole album is here and doesn't include several other cars he had at the shop and at a different location: http://datsun510.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=3338
  17. OK, it's looking like there is enough demand, but I'll wait another couple days and then contact all of you to get things setup. I started a thread in the vendors forum specifically for this: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=137976
  18. I've only had a couple others inquire about them, so spread the word. PM me or email me at: savageg@wwdb.org if you want a set and we'll see if there is indeed enough people who missed out or need them to warrant getting another batch produced. I guess I'll start another thread in the vendors forum and get things going.
  19. OK guys! I can possibly get another batch made up if there were more than just a couple people wanting them. Speak up if anyone wants any and I'll get them made up if there is enough demand.
  20. This is the X-pipe I'm going to run with dual exhaust all the way back to a dual 2.5" in and 3" out Magnaflow muffler.
  21. I went with the poly bushings from MSA. There are some pics, one of the 240 rack with the aluminum housing and the differences between the rack bushings.
  22. I'm currently prepping to do the headliner and then install on the carpet and interior panels. I painted the interior panels with SEM paint in Landau black and they look like new. Here are a couple pics.
