Just grab it and pull. The mirror and mounting arm will pull right out of the ceiling. Joe

I so do not miss doing that! I've done 3 cars and always say never again. The yellow car in my avatar was 4 different colors before I got it. I used 4 gallons on that car using the stripper to also remove any bondo I found. Anyway, you are doing great work! Joe

That does it, garage privledges revoked. Having 2 cars stolen right from my garage in less than a week is too much for me to take! And the wheels are 18's from a 2009 Z33. Joe
-
Nope. Still nothing.
-
Yeah Tom. Funny thing is I think it is secure! If something were to get stolen out of that garage it would have to be done by someone who has access (tenent) to the garage. The garage door gets padlocked on the inside now. Joe

I have been on vacation since last Friday spending 2 weeks with the family at our summer house. All has been going exceptionally well until tonight when I receive a call from my mother. Let me give you a little back ground before I continue my story. My 88 year old grandmother has been living with my parents for the last 2 years. Not that she needs too but it just makes things easier for everyone if she is closer to us as her house is about 30 minutes away. Her house has a nice 3 car attached garage that I use for some of my toys. Currently I have the V8 260Z and the Grand National stored there. BAck to the story and the content of the phone call which goes something like this. "Joey, where is the red car?" I respond "It's in granny garage with the big black car." To which I get "No it isn't. I'm not kidding, Joe, it's not there. I went to bring your grandmother down to the house to pick up the mail and it's not there. Did you lend it to someone?" Right about now I'm getting light headed. I've had the car for about 20 years and although it's old school, I feel like I will never sell it. I like it. A lot. My father gets on the phone and also askes me some questions but by this time all I can think of is the car is gone. Oh, and did I mention the tenant confirmed the car has not been in the garage for 3 weeks?!!? Totally sick, I hang up the phone and try to figure out what to do. First thing is to turn on the computer and get the phone number of the police of the town where the car is. Not much else I can do since I'm about 2 hours away. Next thing to do is call Clive. He is as sick as I am. When I tell him it has been gone for 3 weeks I can hear a big sigh. He knows also that the car is a goner. I hang up with Clive and the house phone righs again. I can't talk so my sister answers. More news. My mother called the tennant and asked her to go to the garage and tell her what color cars are in the garage. The response? A black car and a RED CAR!!!!! WTF???? It seems when my mother took my grandmother down to the house, my grandmother looked in the garage got confused between yellow and red. I did take the yellow car out of the garage about a month ago leaving just the red 260 and the GrandNational. Yep, it sounds like all is good and that Granny just got confused! In any event, I'm heading back up from vacation for a day to check on the cars and to add another lock to the garage door. Joe

Yeah, get all the small crap finished or there will be no dash install for you when I get back from vacation! Joe

Got JCI kit and driveshaft... kind of small?
rags replied to auxilary's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
The first time i saw mine I was skeptical as well. But after beating the crap outta the car on the track it seems to hold up just fine. Joe -
Picture of the pump mounted on any spacer and picture of the cam fp eccentric on the front of the cam would be helpful. Even though you only have 2 lbs of pressure the engine should run as long as there is fuel in the carb bowls. Is there fuel at the carbs?

What Clive doesn't realize is that Joe secretly replaced the Braap head with a bone stock 200k miler head. Since he has never driven a L6 Z car he won't know what he 's missing! Now to somehow swap out the wheels and tires from his V8 car with a set of 14 Appliance wheels I have in the attic. This might me a little tougher to hide Joe.....Um I mean some anonymous poster:lol:
-
And actually you are only seeing half of the cars that need to be moved. There is also a black pearl in the garage then the G35 and the wifes car that need to be moved to clear a work area for Clive's car. Tonight, when the dash and dash harness come out of the basement to be installed, I'll be behind the camera to show the man himself in action! Joe

Weld in Camber plates vs adj lower control arms
rags replied to rags's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Template? What template?! I didn't get no stinkin template! There wasn't any literature with the kit but I wasn't concerned since all I have been hearing about the supplied instructions has been that it is useless. Joe -
Good luck with the move Mike. Hope to see you at Carlisle next year Joe

Brake swept area? Wide tires better?
rags replied to cygnusx1's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Let me start by saying I am by no means an engineer. The way I'm lookig at this is the advantage you get by using more area whether it be in tires or brakes is the reduction of a failure point usually created by heat or the reduced ability to get rid of heat with the smaller area. I refer back to Joe Demers creation of a heat sink for the stock s30 caliper. Adding this to a atock setup made the stock brakes perform like a much larger caliper, pad and vented rotor. Demonstrating this on a tire is much more difficult but can be explained by the larger tire patch sharing the total heat generated just before the point the tires begins to slide. The heat is generated by scrub. My thinking is the larger tire patch is able to handle more heat dissipation before creating so much heat the tire begins to slide. Might not be completely accurate but that's why I say dissipation of heat is why bigger is better Joe -
Weld in Camber plates vs adj lower control arms
rags replied to rags's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Well to give an update, I have the GC plates installed in the front and I just went for a street alignment. Nothing radical 1.5 degrees negative camber in the front 3.5 degrees caster and 1/32" toe out. Only the camber has changed from settings pre plates. The biggest surprise I have noticed is a decrease in steering effort! I'm not sure if this is because of the torrington bearings but man am I loving it! Joe -
Cusco strut bar brackets... Steel, Al?
rags replied to pete280z's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Pete, Thanks for the picture of JohnC's mount. Looks like something I will try to work from. Now maybe John will chime in and tell us what gauge metal was used Joe -
Cusco strut bar brackets... Steel, Al?
rags replied to pete280z's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Pete, What did you come up with? I too, am in the process of adding camber plates although I'm using the GC bolt in kit. I was looking at the strut bar that I'm taking off (origin unknown) and was thinking all I would need to make it work would be to make brackets that I would weld to the strut towers. Any ideas for what the bracets should look like? Guage steel to use? Thanks Joe -
Hmm........I always thought that when the rear wheel bearings were worn, you wold get slight rocking of the wheel when grabbing the tire 180 degrees apart. Most apparent when grabbing the tire at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock and rocking (which mine do). Is that not true? I am questioning this because I have DaleMX's old car and from this thread it looks as if he replaced them only a few years ago. Max mileage on the bearings would be about 7k miles. I have checked a 280 that has les than 80kon the clock and this rocking is not there. Thoughts? Joe

Owen, Are you planning on swapping in an R200? Moving the diff back to the setback position will do the trick. Good find. Where did you find it? Joe
-
Post a picture of the rear caliper as it is mounted. If the bleeder is truly midway then the top half of the caliper will be filled with air.
-
Did you swap the rear calipers right to left, left to right so that the bleeders are on the top of the calipers?

Any one use one of those small trailers to haul your track tires to the track? I'm thinking this is the route I'm going to take since I no longer have a full trailer or tow vehicle. Who sells them? What are they called? Opinions on them? Not having much luck finding a site that sells them. Thanks Joe

You, my friend, are good! Master mechanic! I hope one day to be able to keep up. Though that's not looking too good right now!

Weld in Camber plates vs adj lower control arms
rags replied to rags's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Thanks for all of the great responses guys as this will greatly help with my decision. To add a little more background, the car is a split duty car, not track only. Street wheels are 350Z wheels, just because they were the right price and tires were new. The car is running 6.5" ride height in the front and 7.5" in the rear (yes I know I need to drop the rear and will probably drop to 7"). No flares. Tire diameter for the street tires I believe is 26", huge, but they don't rub. Once I get the track tires I'm assuming they will be in the 25" range and therefore drop the car another half inch. So I'm trying to do things in a progressive manner where I spend cash wisely, one step at time, and avoid downtime. Jon, why do you say the GC plates are better than the weld in type? I would have thought just the opposite. Joe -

Was the -3 the max you could get with only the plates?
