  1. I am in search of a smaller, lighter battery and I would like to cut as much weigh as possible down. This battery is going to be in a daily driven 240sx with a stock KA24DE. My first thought was to use an odyssey pc680 since initially that's what most of my research came up with (people mostly converting to KA turbo's, they need a smaller battery since the intercooler piping is normally run trough the battery tray area), but today I popped into a battery store that also carries car batteries. Low and behold they have a pc680 on the shelf, and I begin asking questions and comparrisons to a stock battery for my 240sx. Well the stock battery puts out 550 cca, while the pc680 puts out somewhere like 220, so I'm just hoping that 550 is really overkill. Now just below the 680 there is a line of several drycell batteries made for harly's. Battery Tender and Ballistic EVO2's were the names. They have 16 cell dry cell batteries that get something like 500cca and weigh 10 pounds less than the 13lb pc680 (at about double the cost). After talking to the salesman the biggest issue is that those batteries may not be able to take the current that the starter draws and the terminals could burn up, whereas the pc680 can take it. Basically I'm just wondering what you're guys opinions are on dry cells. I would love to get a ballistic since I've heard amazing things from them from my motorcycle buddies, but again am worried about the starter burning up the terminals. Edit: I do understand that many drycells "mimick" cca, like they require a ramp up cranking time. I've heard that the ballistics do not require that time.
  2. So just out of curiosity do you have a shipping agent or know someone in the US, preferably in Southern California, nevada or Arizona region? And does your price include shipping it to you? I sold my 260z to someone from the UAE. He called me, I didn't believe him, a few hours later a tow truck operator showed up with a wad of cash to take the car away.
  3. MS2 with an outdated firmware. Was set up for an L though, and came with the harness, connectors, stim kit and a random sensor that I'm not going to use for $400. Had to buy a trigger wheel and IAT sensor which I'm going to try and get set up on my S13 in NA form first. I'm been talking with flatblack about how to set it up, and I've messed with the tuning tables with the stim.
  4. It will cost nearly identical for any HP level below 300hp. I converted my L28 to turbo, and I'm currently putting together a kit for my soon to be KA-T s13. The only, price difference, and I mean only, it the engine management. For sub 300 you can use a simple RS enthalpy or similar chipped tune, while for an L28 you should almost immediately go to a standalone to save teh trouble unless you want a stock power L28 (or only a little above) Unless you get a major deal on someone parting out their KA-T or selling as a group you won't be saving more than maybe a few hundred dollars. Turbo headers: KA $150 new Isis, L28 turbo mani $100 used (will support 300hp all day) Turbo: Stock t25 from an SR $150, stock T3 from a ZX $150 (if you go brand new garrett, a T28 will be like $300 less than a T3) Injectors: SR20 370cc injectors $100, Turbo L28 injectors $100 (if you go with something larger, you can probably find sets of injectors for either an SR or RB for pretty much teh same price) Intake: Stock KA intake free if you have one, Stock L28 turbo mani $100 maybe Intercooler: There is no such thing as a real ready made kit, so you will probably buy an intercooler sized to fit, then some pipeing you can cut up to fit. Will cost the same with either engine. Downpipe: Stock ones should run you less than $40 Exhasut piping: Will pretty much be custom either way so roughly the same price Fuel system: Should get a new walboro and FPR for both cases, will cost the same Just for reference, I honestly think the KA is worse than the L28 and I've owned both in NA form. Then again if it turns out your engine is fubar, then whichever one you can find for cheaper locally would be the better deal. you just need to fab some motor mounts for the KA and it will fit. To answer your quetion: the 280ZX does not have a mustache bar, that's from a 280z. The 280zx is a completely different suspension. You should put a want add up on this site, zcar.com, and classicz.
  5. You already ordered it? I haven't had much time to mess with mine yet because this semester has been busy, but next semester that should be changing.
  6. When he says it sits 2 inches up, he means that the engine won't be as close to the firewall. It will sit closer to the radiator support. Won't really affect anything other than center of gravity since the S30 bay is so damn long. The KA tranny is almost identical in length (if not the same) to an L series tranny. If you bolt the ka tranny using the L mount, then you will be able to use your stock driveshaft. You may need to cut the hole a little wider, but I highly doubt that. You would use the slave that is design for the KA tranny. I think it's the same as an L slave so the clutch line should work. If not, it would cost like $20 to make a custom SS line from the clutch hardline to the slave cylinder. What KA parts can you get that are easier to get than L series parts? if you're keeping it NA then basically you're only really looking at headers, which you can get for an L28 no problem.
  7. Know I know you live in Australia, but yes it it possible to modify ss lines. There is a shop in my hometown that specializes in an fitting, ss line, and hydraulic lines (along with various other Aeronautical oddities) that would be able to modify it no problem. I'm sure you can find a shop or race shop that can do it local to you. And you don't need to use a banjo line to the s13 caliper. Just find the right fitting and have the shop chop off your wrong side and press on the new fitting.
  8. The gas tank may also give false readings because of the dent. I'd buy another running car if you find your shell is tweaked.
  9. The L28 will have comparable mpg to the ka. If you still insist to put the ka in, then put it in with a ka tranny. The tilting you are referring to is if you bolt the ka tranny to an L28. If you think about how the engine is sitting in a 240sx, the tranny sits right when the ka is tilted. so just put the ka in with the same tilt.
  10. We can learn MS together. I just picked up a built set for my future KA-T.
  11. They were webers, Brians helping me do an SR20 swap into my ZX. PM me, I couldn't PM you. Said your box was full.
  12. Flock it. It'll look awesome, and be different than both a cover and an original. Problem would be finding someone close to you that could do that.
  13. Sounds like you have a leak in your AC system, either near or at the compressor/lines. Easy way to check is to just buy a new shorter belt that doesn't loop around the AC and run the car with the AC disconnected. Does your AC still blow cold?
  14. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/classic20c02 or ebay.
  15. Saw a Z in the opening scene is Ted, when the kid pushed ted in a cart down a hill they start off near a yellow s30.
  16. You shouldn't need to remove the rack. It's just as you said, loosen the bolts and remove the top, slide the new greased bushings into place. You may need to jack up the engine if you are having issues getting the rack up enough to get the new bushings in. You should probably replace the tie rods anyway.
  17. Egr can be deleted and it relatively harmless. Evap canister, not so much. Pictures will help.
  18. What kind of diff do you have? That should have been the first question
  19. You should take notes on any mod you do thoroughly. It makes for a better build thread, and you can look back on it and say I can't believe I did that.
  20. If its like a 280zx stock pressure should be around 37.5 psi. Buy a regulator that has that range. My vote is for aeromotive. They have great customer service and repaired my gauge for free, even though I bought it off eBay from an private seller.
  21. Finally got the time to pick up the block. Also I keep messing around with my 240sx, which is where funds seem to disappear to: 5 speed swap done back at the beginning of august (drove to cali with an auto, left with a manual): Some bracing: Just picked up some coilovers today (11/21/13) Before cleaning After: Installed an Innovate A/F gauge: Because this stuff will be going in soon (KA-T):
