I'm picking up my 280zx with a manual trans and 90,000 miles. It needs brake lins but thats it acording to the owner. I plan on making this a project car and one day a weekend car. I'm not looking the get a ton of power out of it but I do want to make it look nice. I'm a good craftsman and fabricator in my opinion so I plan on making a lot of stuff in house. I want to lower it a good bit, give it some offset wheels and fender flares, and paint it all on a budget plus spruce up the inside. I can make the flares no problem but I'm not sure how im going to do the suspention. $900 coilovers are awsome but not in the buget for me. I have a welder though. I'm looking for links to diy suspenson maybe and what I should look for in rims. Also is $800 a decent deal? or not so much. best deal in my area but I have heard of people getting better deals Let me know if you have other Ideas for my project to. Thanks, Isaac

I am looking for a used aftermarket down pipe for a l28et specifically for an S30 by MSA.

Looking for a proven setup for the LS3 in a Z31, may not be proven for a Z31 but proven to deliver power with a muffled side exhaust. Out under the left door so obviously available length will be a lot less than usual, I'm thinking 4" or equivalent oval outlet with an effective muffler or two in there somewhere. Don't have much of a clue about exhausts, emudecate me.

Currently redoing my l28et intake and exhaust manifolds. Does anyone know how hot the exhaust manifold and turbo get on a completely stock setup? Im going to be painting the intake with 550 degree paint, is this high enough? Was planning on painting the exhaust with 1400 degree paint and possibly wrapping. is this a concern? Will the manifold with wrap get above 1400 degrees. also any thoughts on a turbo blanket causing extra wear on the stock turbo? Really dont want to send the manifold out to get professionally coated, cant afford to. Has anyone made a custom heat shield to go between the exhaust and intake?

Our apprentice at the shop rescued a brand new Stebro muffler from the metal scrap pile when our parts department was doing some spring cleaning. So after cutting, grinding and welding I installed it on my 78 280 stock engine with 2" exhaust. the vid is after 1 hour of driving. There is no drone, and is weirdly quiet when driving under full throttle from the interior. So I made a vid of it revving, and was surprised at the exhaust note which was a nice deep exterior sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7C3P_OABnx4

Listen to that turbo winding down https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BPuBpE4pH4 The current revision of my Datsun 240z exhaust I built, is full 3" turbo back from the stock l28 garret t3 turbo, custom made turbo flange adaptor from 2.5" to 3" downpipe with v-band, mandrel bends and magnaflow round muffler as a resonator to quiet the rasp and drone. quiet enough for SCCA sound meter. Stays under 90 decibles.

I am in need of a clean 280zx exhaust manifold for the P79 head. A stud broke and I have clamped down that side just to be able to drive it short distances but it may have a small leak causing excessive noise that makes it hard to listen for any unwanted sounds during my engine break-in period. Needs to be leak free and broken stud free. I am open to headers if you can cut a good deal on them as long as they relatively new, come with adapter, and are from MSA's newer batches of headers, since I know a few Z guys in my area who bought them when they first came out and found them to be less than satisfactory (apparently MSA did some work and updated their product). I will pay shipping as well on any purchases.

So I just finished up swapping an 81 l28et into my 76 280z. Runs and drives but far from a smooth running car due to only having a downpipe haha. Using the n42 intake seemed like a good idea at first but I really didnt study up enough on it. Problem number one: the turbo blocks where the crankcase vent goes into the manifold. My solution to this problem was to just run it back into the J pipe, figured this was pretty much the same thing as before just without the little check valve and now it is behind the throttle. Problem number two: What to do with the other line I had running from the T connector, that was connected to the vent on the valve cover and airflow regulator, back to the j pipe. I ended up capping it off and didnt really see any change in performance. I guess my question here is how important is the airflow through everything? Does the air regulator actually need to be connected before and after the throttle? I think this will be much easier to diagnose after I get an exhaust on the car, but for now its just running poorly.

I was thinking of buying some ebay dump pipes for my 240z rb26 project, was wondering if anyone is or has attempted running these on their cars? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nissan-Skyline-R32-R33-R34-GTR-RB26DETT-Turbo-Dump-Pipes-Turbo-Outlet-Elbow-/230925199262?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item35c436e79e Its hard to tell from the pictures if these are going to take up much more space than the oem dumps, there is not a lot of extra room between the dumps and the steering shaft as is. The ebay post says that they are for rhd cars only but I don't think that means a lot to hybrid z members lol. Any opinions would be appreciated. -kevin

Hello hybrid z I have a question regarding the triple weber carb kit that is for L series engines. Well i am planning on getting the carb kit but i'm not sure which one to get. Here is a video of my car specs on the engine are in the description. Not sure what cam but here is what i think it is Grind: 17036. Lift(In/Ex): .495/.495. Duration(In/Ex): 290/290 any thoughts on this.

I apologize if there are millions of posts about exhaust, but if I could get some real quick opinions that would be great. I am running a built L28ET in my 78 280z and it currently has a straight 3" pipe all the way out. It has become or I have become to old for the noise level. I am looking for opinions on free flow mufflers and if I should get a resonator also. I just want to quiet her down a bit, but I do not want her to sound like a little biotch...Any help would be appreciated. I am looking at the Borla XR-1, but again I would like to know if a resonator is a good idea, especially with the turbo, even though all these components are suppose to be free flow. Attached eye candy too. Thanks, John

I have a cherrybomb under the driver floorpan and a garbage (like, junk) truck tip on my car right now. I'm about to cut that tip off and put in a Borla xr-1. Wondering if anyone thinks the cherrybomb will adversely affect the sound of the Borla (just sound, I drive it too little and too softly to care that much about performance aspect). I figure there's someone on here, or multiple people, who have the experience to know what I'm about to do and can tell me if I'm going to love it or if I'm gonna dislike it until I decide to replace the rest of the exhaust.

I can't reply to my last thread... Anybody know where to get these? I called ANSA this morning, they're in Raleigh maybe an hr from me, and the guy had no clue what I was describing. I thought it would be a fairly popular item, they must sell a whole hell of a lot of everything else. Sent him an email with pic, and he forwarded me to "the guy that came over from ANSA. God, he's been here forever." I'm afraid it's going to cost $535,207,111 You can find the horizontals much easier. They were even listed on the ANSA website, but when I gave the part number, the guy said it didn't exist. This experience has made me feel old... So they're gonna get back with me, soon as they rouse the old timer awake and pump him full of gin, so's he see if he can understand what this crazy guy on the phone was talking about, 'single inlet, dual chrome outlet, resonated exhaust tips'. Pffft. Whoever's heard of such a thing. fun
