  1. I do feel for all you guys who are building your own cars at home garage without a lift . I'm so lucky that my boss allows me to do my projects at work ( automotive shop ) on the weekends .
  2. Great choice on tailpipe exists . I was thinking the same thing but I did a single , not ready for fuel cell . I'm also in the process of smoothing the lower rear panel too . Body work has begun , the car will be down for awhile . Getting the body ready for cooler weather so i can plasti-dip the whole car .
  3. I don't think the inspector is going to check your fuel gauge or cares how much fuel you have . Most of GM cars have problem with fuel senders , my inspector and many others have never checked them . Unless it sets a " CEL " , on a newer model car .
  4. Yes . Like you said , one side is to bat. positive and if the other side is shorted to ground then the light bulb will light . Remember , the light bulb needs pos and neg for it to work .
  5. Matt has no skills . He's just winging it . His favorite tool is a BFH . Just kidding .
  6. Skip the flares , send them straight to me . I'm telling you , they'll look better on my Z31 turbo .
  7. I'd highly rec that you stay far away from VW ign. coils . I've replaced way too many of them at our shop , they're junk . Nissan coils are pretty good except for Maxima ( late 90s and early 2000s ) .
  8. Stop wasting your money on fuses . Find an old or new light socket ( with bulb ) with 2 wires on the backside or a test light . At your fuse holder ( the one that blows ) , connect one lead to one side and the other lead to the other side . If you have dead short , the light will light up . Start wiggling wires or unplug components until the light goes out . When it does , you have found your source . Good luck .
  9. I'm not too crazy about the 2+2 look ( on the S30 and S130 ) . It looks too much like a station wagon . The 300ZX 2+2s are ok . IMO .
  10. It sounds like a rod bearing to me . Would it make noise with RPM ?
  11. A lot of body work ahead of you , talking about rust . I guess it's not as bad as the donor car . Good luck on your project . And I'll take center light panel if you don't need it . .
  12. That's pretty cool . Your car ? Don't think you can fit a full grown adult back there . .

Sweet car and awesome recap VDO . But you might want to remove the 2nd VDO . . Got my vote .
  14. Don't know what it's like , ride quality , with solid subframe bushings . I had to make mine solid due to subframe movement during launch . It moved about an inch with good bushings . Rear tires were rubbing the front of rear fenders . With bushings in place , I welded 2 large washers , 1 on top and 1 on bottom , on each side . Eliminated subframe movement but it rides horrible , you can feel the vibration . Rather have urethane bushings . Soon , it'll get a solid axle conversion .
  15. I like your brother's setup , looks good . Where did he get forward facing headers ? I might do something like with my 84 turbo .
  16. On my 83 ZXT , I had to lowered front and rear to bring it back down to some what fact ( before conversion ) ride height . It had turbo w/ T5 and converted to LS w/ T56 . And my 78 , the front end was higher and the rear was about the same . It had 5 spd and converted to LS w/ auto . Of course , the auto is much heavier than the 5 spd and so is the T56 . Search found that a full dressed LS is about 400 lbs. Trust me , I was very surprised when I first saw the front end after I removed the engine hoist . I threw everything I could think of like oil , coolant , etc. on top of the motor and the result was about the same .
  17. Where did you come up with that number ? All I know is that , both of my Zs sat higher after I did the conversions . That tells me , the LS motor/trans combo is lighter . I don't think the VG is more than 100 lbs. lighter than the L6 . IMO , the LS is lighter due to the use of aluminum and plastic .
  18. The same thing happened to me too , many times . Even guys with GTs and Z28s . Sometimes I played with them and other times I just revved my engine . Just love the look on their faces .
  19. I was a Ford guy for awhile . Owned 2 GTs , many years ago , before I bought my first Datsun . Chevy won me over with the LS motor . But I still love the 5.0 . I just have to go with where the technology is at . IMO , the LS is a much better engineered motor . Good luck with your project . Post lots of pictures , people love pictures . .
  20. The Z looks pretty straight . Keeping EFI ? Building your own mounts ?
  21. I don't think the 78 is the same . Here's my 78 .
