13" wheels on a 240Z?
jhm replied to surplus-addict's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Jon, that's true...depending on wheel offset and design. My aluminum mags have enough negative offset (i.e. low backspacing, high "lip") that they clear the calipers without any grinding required. Others, like steel racing wheels, might not require as much neg offset if they are of a thin design and manufacture. Finally, one can always use wheel adapters and spacers to move the wheel out away from the brake hardware. -
13" wheels on a 240Z?
jhm replied to surplus-addict's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I'll second Tony D's recommendation for 13 inchers as autocross wheels. They lower the car, lower your overall gear ratio, and reduce the unsprung weight. I have a light set of aluminum 13x8 wheels with sticky Hoosiers that I use for auto-x. That being said, I'd recommend a cheap set of ANY stock Z wheels for your fabrication and roller needs...they can be found all over Z forums and Craigslist for next to nothing. Good luck. -
Putting Battery in Passenger rear compartment
jhm replied to mr_han_solo's topic in Fabrication / Welding
Here's a couple additional thoughts on relocating the battery. I also used a brass hot post in the engine compartment, similar to EF Ian....it works well. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/113373-relocating-battery/ -
Budget Coilovers with Stock top-hats
jhm replied to mtnickel's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
If you're looking to do budget coilovers, it's hard to beat Cosmo Racing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Racing-Coil-over-Coilover-fit-DATSUN-260Z-280Z-74-78-Adjustable-Lowering-Springs-/251457469605?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item3a8c087ca5 A few guys here are using them....search and you should be able to find their threads. Good luck and happy motoring. -
For what it's worth, I ordered from Parts Geek last time I needed a brake booster...at the time, they had the best overall price (including shipping and core value). That was three years ago and it's been working fine since. Good luck.

Sounds like your problems started when you were installing the radio? If so, I'd start there....check all the connections and leads that you may have worked with during the installation. If your alternator is charging correctly and the battery is still draining, there's a slow drain somewhere, even when the ignition is off. Good luck with it and be sure to post your results!

Dry cell battery, what should I be looking at spec wise?
jhm replied to BluDestiny's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
+1 for the Deka ETX30L. Paid $115 for mine shipped, three years ago, from High-Tech Battery Solutions. Very small and lightweight. -
That. is. COOL!

Here's mine...it's a custom-built. Deck is 6' x 13'; total weight approx 800 lbs. Pulls really nice because of the light weight and the long tongue. Even with the dovetail and long ramps, still need wood block ramp extenders. I put the left fender on a hinge to give me sufficient clearance when opening the driver's door. Haven't had any unusual tire wear issues....sounds like a strange problem you're having, especially if it's not the same tire(s) wearing excessively all the time. Just out of curiosity, have you ever checked the loading on each tire (with trailer fully loaded and hooked to the tow vehicle)?

cgraner, rather than resurrecting all these 3- and 4-year old threads from the dead, could you send a PM to the original posters? Even if they still need the part, it's highly unlikely that they're still following these old threads, but a PM will always reach them immediately. Thx very much.

First of all, welcome to HybridZ.org....I hope you find it a useful and informing forum. Pretty hard to answer your question given the scant information provided in your post....a lot of variables go into your decision. Being that you're in AZ, I would accept nothing less than a straight, rust-free shell. To get an idea of going market prices, have you perused our Classified section? I'm sure you'll be able to see several examples similar to the car you're considering, which should give you a decent idea of what it's worth. Hope this helps...good luck with your search and happy motoring.

Aaahhhhh so. Got it. I think there's a guy down your way who's always selling a ton of new and used race parts on Craigslist.....may be worth a phone call. Otherwise, good luck with the install and keep us posted on your final solution. Thx!

Looking for some reasonably priced 15" alloys, either 15x9 or 15x10. I realize this is an unusual size, but I figured I'd ask anyway. If I can't find any used wheels at a decent price, I'm going with the XXR 15x9's....they seem hard to beat for quality and price. Thx in advance!
-
Yeah....no way those wings would fit without some serious bending or cutting, which sucks. If the "Clubman" style seat (available from Corbeau or Cobra) appeals to you, the best price I've found is from these guys: http://www.laurelmountainmustang.com/ I just bought a Corbeau Clubman for $229 + $10 shipping.....hard to beat! (One big advantage the Clubman seat has over many others is the "wingless" shoulder section, which makes it fit in the 260 & 280 much more easily.) Good luck with your install, whichever route you go!

All these are great repair ideas; and if you decide to replace, you're in CA and you will find a TON of cheap and readily accessible used parts for these old S30's. Also, there are several vendors that offer cool console covers that incorporate drinks holders, like this one from MSA: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/classic08e06 Good luck and happy motoring.

question re: turbo 350 and 200r4
jhm replied to adisturbedv8z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
And here's a company that offers a great selection of kits and hardware to do the conversion: http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/index.shtml You will be MUCH happier with an overdrive....good luck and happy motoring! -
DIY front end alignment- what's your method?
jhm replied to madkaw's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I use a laser straight edge on each front wheel, to put marks on a perpendicular wall in front of the vehicle. Simple geometry from there to calculate your toe-in/toe-out. A simple laser pointer could also be used. Good luck with whatever method you choose. -
Custom, maybe? I fabbed a panel exactly like that for a convertible Z I built years ago. Used early C4 tail lights, and it looked great.

Admin, looks like this thread has been spammed. Tool shed or delete? Also recommend deleting user accounts for "veirediof" and "Tooleamontymn".

Cheap way to make your own chin lip front spoiler.
jhm replied to 9rider's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Interesting approach, very innovative! Interested to see the final results....good luck with the install. -
Aaaahhhh....thank you for clarifying; but sorry, I'm not able to help you there. Have always loved the look of the Pantera hatch though -- good luck with the repairs.
-
Are you talking about the weatherstripping for the hatch (i.e. the weatherstripping that's glued to the seam on the body)? That should be OEM, no? Sorry if I'm confused.

May want to post what month your 260 was built in....a lot of the parts you're looking for will vary depending on whether you've got an "early" '74 or a "late" '74. The early models have more in common with 240s and the late '74 260s have more in common with 280s. Good luck with the build and happy motoring!

Can anyone identify these wheels?
jhm replied to 9/73-E31-260z's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Centerline also made/makes that style wheel....fairly popular on old Z's. They were on my car when I bought it (14x8), and I still have them for occasional street use.
