  1. :in before the lock: Just wondering if you value your opinion more than others? Because I could tell you that one is better than the other OR you could find out which one works best to your power goals. If you want the cheapest then the stroked l3.1 is not for you. There are a few threads that show the cost comparison from going that route. If you are looking for 250-300whp then either will d fine. Not sure if you have looked at the 3.1L post and just been in the "wishing"/ drool mode but do some searching then come back with some goals and we can help you get there. Happy hunting!
  2. WOW that is the NICEST stock engine bay I have seen in a LONG time. You could eat off that! Love that color too. Reminds me of Blakt Out's bay pure awesome.
  3. Not to sound harsh but you could try not taking it over normal speeds. The choices above are a great place to start. Or you could try swapping it out for a known good one.
  4. I agree with the information stated here. With one comment on the section where this is posted. It would be more fitting in the Non-tech forum as to the lack of adding useful knowledge to the model specific. Other than that welcome to the forum! There are many swaps that will fill your power goals. It sounds like you might not want the hassle of a turbo swap so check out the V8 section for most of your drooling needs. My thought would be to check out the BMW, 2j, Mercedes straight six swaps. Many have close to your power goal (some tuning and a few parts) have A/C, power steering options and they are not all to common on the boards. Very reliable and all the fun you can handle. 350-400 in a 2500lb car is CRAZY! Enjoy your time here. edit reason: Poor layout on mobile site.
  5. Check for rust in all the usual places. Look at the stickies for more info, browse the site. My thoughts are now that you voiced an interest in the car she is seeing an opportunity to make some money. Take a look around your area for cars in similar condition and make your case for the 1500. That sounds like a great place to start if its in good shape. Point out the flaws, running or not, rust spots and other things that it needs. Maybe she will come around to your side after a good chat. Start out putting the money on the table so she can see you are serious. ( I find having the cash in hand so they see it sweetens any deal)
  6. Wow that motor looks like it was ment to be there! Very amazing work.
  7. Great job on the video. It could use some work but thumbs up!
  8. First off, do yourself a favor and search the Toyota engine section for some info. Second NO the bolt pastern for the two heads are NOT different, heck why not get a 1jz head on 2jz bottom end? YES the GE over the top intake will clear the hood if the block is mounted low enough. It has been done before.
  9. It stems from the model specific forum, every post in there could be filed else ware. There needs to be a model specific under each category. Most people don't ever use the trouble shooting section and that is what over half the post are under the model specific.
  10. I agree 100% with you Tony. I am currently employed in the aviation industry and work with torque calibrated tools on a daily basis. The digital wrenches are worth every penny as most will tell you what the final torque was. Just don't drop it!
  11. I usually would try to add some useful information to a post like this but it has been covered. Check the cap and plugs. Also because it is a new rebuild check the tension on the timing chain. I have had a motor run great (after timing chain and some gasket changed) for a few months then one day you go to start and nothing. Turned out to be the tensioner bolt backed out, it was a quick fix but it took a while to find.
  12. Yes but its JDM tyte FTW!!!!
  13. Very true. There was none of that info in the OP so I guess it should have been phrased as a question. What are your reasons for wanting the R180? The taller gear? Reasons stated above? ect. (Thanks John)
  14. Just stand on it set it to zero and get back on with the bucket. Subtract the earths gravitational pull and divide by 9
  15. Why go from a R200 to 180?? Unless its LSD yours is going out or you just can't pass it up hold off.
  16. Testing or comparing two wrenches on a torqued fastener is NOT going to tell you if its good. Re torquing will add more force on the fastener thus increasing the torque. It's just like double clicking the wrench you will miss your range. I have seen a double click add over 100 inlbs or MORE! You need to take it to a place that has a guage that will tell you the exact torque of your wrench. Also a tip is to warm your torque wrench up by taking it to 50% of the value and click it 10 times to get the springs ready. Then return to within 10% of the LOWEST value (where it should be for storing). My link
  17. Some very interesting videos! shows head stamp! around 2:40 Other cool edit: Don't post a quick message right befor you get off work......... they usually don't make sence.
  18. Agree.... DON'T do it. Unless you like having holes in your pants or burns on your legs......... To each his own.
  19. As always A+ BRAAP This post made my day at work worth it!!
  20. Try a multimeter the metal will have resistance off a non chrome surface.
  21. Sorry I am of no help but WHAT is the L28 in?? I have not seen that engine bay before...... edit: Actually I did have a thought you didn't mention the fuel filter or pressure that could pose a problem at lower RPM.
