  1. Xnke, a member here can mate up an L-series bell housing to the 240sx S15 6-speed. Its not cheap though. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/112122-l-series-6-speed-transmission-conversions/?do=findComment&comment=1049331 You can also have the KA s13/14 240sx tranny's mated in the same way. It'd be easier and cheaper to find a ZX 5 speed
  2. Yes an auto ECU will work. People use the 81 harness and ECU and they were all auto cars.
  3. So it was the module? Did you just clean or replace?
  4. If you want to really get the most bang for your buck and learn a lot, get megasquirt. Total cost is $500-600 including all the random electrical things you may need to buy.
  5. I see a zx with a whale tail. Are you selling?
  6. I did a baseline dyno on my l26 with su's and made 147 rwhp. That was 1 year after I bought he car and put like 10k miles on an unknown mileage motor. I'd consider that very happy. I never got a chance to test my 280zx in na form.
  7. My friend spent about $3k in machine work, carbs, paying to have the carbs rebuilt and fairly long dyno session to tune the carbs. He made about 213rwhp. In comparison I spent around $2.5k for a similar setup (triple webers, light headwork, cam) and made 180rwhp. My stock turbo swap cost me maybe $400. Just adding parts to my previously NA engine. Oil pan, turbo manifold, turbo, jpipe (will be replaced with an intercooler soon), got a oil feed line made for $5 using some line that was laying around my friends shop.
  8. 250rwhp is not cheap staying NA. First step is to buy some turbo stuff and put it on. I need to go do a dyno session on my new turbo swap. All stock but damn it feels so much faster. I'm actually looking into a megasquirt system now as I've been on and off the phone with matt at DIY about everything needed, how to wire stuff up etc.
  9. I think there is a yellow 280zx that's drifting who made a bash bar. Mounts to those shock bolt holes and looks fairly clean.
  10. For the gas tank, you may want to consider a fuel cell. If not I know there is a company somewhere (I want to say in FL) that made a SS tank from scratch that fit in the stock location for a 240z.. They should have the cad and if you give them a few more measurements they can make one for the 280z. The thread was on this site somewhere. Leaking fluid can be from an aging rear main seal. Is the fluid leaking from the tranny engine or transmission oil?
  11. How much does the r160 weigh compared to an r180?
  12. Yes it will rub, you can use a 5mm spacer and it should clear barely. I'd run an 8mm spacer just in case. You really want to get a tires with overal diamter at stock or below. The car will feel more sluggish with bigger diameter tires. I'm telling you you need to get the 16x8. They have the widest selection of decent tires. 225/50/16 is like a normal size. A 225 will fit on a 7inch wide rim but will look stupid.
  13. You can probably just splice the 7 pin wiring into the 5 pin harness, and just not use the fuel cut off wires. Just need to find out which wires go the the air temp sensor in the afm and the position pin. How ever you will no longer have the fuel cut off. Your call, but I'd go with just finding a new ecu and afm.
  14. That's impressive, Note how they actually go off about an inch or two before the runner turn down SMOOTHLY. Much better than the knock offs that MSA sells.
  15. Pat, a member ehre also makes them, not sure on cost though. I'm sure he doens't charge a lot.
  16. Keep, although I didn't think they would clear the steering rack on an s130. Pics of them mounted or off please
  17. xnke, is the tilt so bad that people don't just bolt them up? I've read up on the ka tranny swap and why the bellhousing needed to be machine, but is that all just to correct the tilt? or do issues with clutch/flywheel and collar come up?
  18. I need to buy a bathroom scale and start weighing stuff. I may do it this weekend, since I want to see how much heavier the turbo stuff is compared to some 6-1 headers.
  19. You will learn so much about your engine and being a mechanic in general lol.
  20. You have toe. That's not good. I bet the mount for your control arm is bent, if not the frame. I'd try a new crossmember if possible. Toe destroy tires 100x faster than camber. I had it on my 260z after one of my wheels fell off from someone trying to steal them. My tires lasted like 3 months.
  21. I've wanted a Goon for a while. A legit 510 one. Or a 4 dr 510. It would be amazing to throw in an Sr or boosted ka and spank mustangs and vettes
