  1. What will you use for seatbelts with the WRX seats?
  2. Check out the FAQ section, read everything in there.
  3. Your post seemed to be very on topic to me. Thanks for sharing.
  4. I love that it is something different. I have not done this swap myself so this is a bit of speculation, however, I am not convinced that it is that much more economical if you are starting with nothing. $500 adapter, $500 used trans, T56 bellhousing, labor and consumables for the mod. You can probably just buy a T56 for not much more. I came to the same conclusion after researching the R154 swap option.
  5. Be very careful when you are messing with throttle linkage. Many years ago before I knew any better, I built a flimsy bracket to hold a overdrive kick down switch. Took the car out for a test drive, went full throttle real quick stop light to stop light, let off the pedal, car kept pulling. You guessed it, my silly little bracket had bent and trapped the throttle wide open. Nearly soiled my pants. Im just saying, be careful. I wouldn't want you to ruin a pair of perfectly good pants.
  6. Thoughts? Read some more on this site. You are not the first person to build a V8 S30. See what people are running. Tuned up stock configurations are much more capable than you think.
  7. My recommendation is to forget about the T5. Its good money after bad. They are not meant to take much power. Despite my best efforts, mine did not last very long. I wish I would have not put a dime into a T5 and just saved the money for a TKO or T56
  8. Tape measure and a WRX and you will have your answer. I would look on the WRX web boards NASIOC or I-club would be a good place to start.
  9. Interesting. I hope others will take the time to post there responses. I am really considering buying a set.
  10. Thank you for your input, I have never been on the street in a Z with anything other than stock seats.
  11. To me that looks like lowering springs in the front. Might want to pull a wheel off and look for markings on the springs.
  12. Mike I want to let you know how much I appreciate the content you have added to HZ. I too have noticed this shift in this thread. It seems like every time you make a post you are then defending or justifying everything you have done. It is the sort of internet culture where people make snap judgement that they "wouldn't have done that", "this is the right way", "What you need to do is (insert unsubstantiated opinion)". I believe that this culture is partially responsible for the nose dive in content here on HZ. Building a car is hard enough, taking the time to photograph is and then post it with such detailed descriptions is nothing short of amazing. Then to receive negativity form people is just silly. HybirdZ is supposed to be about taking the alternate approach, making it work and sharing your results. We have a lot to lean from each others successes and failures. The arm chair critics should withhold comment. Actually doing something is a lot harder than you might imagine, give it a try. Mikelly is not the first content adder to be pushed away. If this board that is more than 300 duplicate posts of "will these wheels fit, I'm too lazy to figure it out", we need people like this. A bit a rant, but these is some truth in there.
  13. Hello Hybriz. Originally, I had the idea that I would be building a track car. However, I have reevaluated my project and life situation and realized that I will be way more use and enjoyment out of a street car, a "track capable" street car. I have zero factory seat mounts in my chassis, they were rusty and have been removed. So I am starting with a bit of a blank state. I have a set of OMP fixed back seats (FIA approved) and two sets of recaro double locking sliders. My plan was to build a roll bar (not cage), stuffed tight to the roof with a harness bar for some schroth 4 point AMS belts. My concern is that fixed back deep bucket sets with 4 point harnesses may be a mistake for a street car. It may make it difficult to look behind me or check my shoulder. I would have to go through all the fab work to discover I built something that just does not work well. I have been thinking about selling the seats and sliders and going with a OEM seat and possibly seat belt configuration. Something like 350z, S2000, WRX or Evo seats. Perhaps with a modern factory seat belt. Maybe 240sx or I saw another hybrid z who used the Miata retracotrs Link: http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/55212-seat-swap-list/?p=975906 I am not afraid of some fab work, that has to happen either way and I am not looking for supreme comfort necessarily, I just want to make sure I choose a package that is both safe and appropriate for spirited street use and maybe a very occasional track day. What are your thoughts and/or experiences? Has anyone here put some street miles in with fixed back buckets and harnesses? I am experiencing some paralysis by analysis, I need to get this figured out before I can move on with the chassis work.
  14. Damn, a few years late to the party but still here to set the record straight. Commitment.
  15. Take some satin black spray paint and paint the body inside the flare black. Done.
  16. I like that the car is 4x4 high up in the add picture.
  17. Hope your whole cage is not welded like that dimpled panel is. Yikes.
  18. I didnt expect to spark such a debate. Hah. This is not a 120v system and there is NO ground. What is refereed to as "ground" in automotive wiring is the negative. Any hot wire that touches that will short. However, this is true for the whole damn chassis. Great work, make sure you post pics of the finished product.
  19. Dang it! No RELAX box. Are you at all concerned with constructing the housing out of a conductive material? Might not be an issue, just asking.
  20. Mike, Im not sure if you have already explained this else where, can you run me though the diff / axle / cv / hub /upright configuration? Custom uprights with intrepid hubs, using custom splined CV's to fix interpid? Thanks! Mike
  21. True hybridz style right there. Let us know how it works out.
  22. I am going to rid that idea off and tell everyone about how smart I am for thinking of it myself. Kidding... nice work!
