  1. I did a track day last weekend and the guy behind me came over after and said I was almost picking my rear inside tire off the ground in these couple tight fast Essex on the track. He told me I needed a bigger rear bar. I don't have any rear bar. It looks like in the video for the green hornet z that he is fast and his car looks to stay flat and I think I saw a rear bar on it when he was showing undercarriage shots. Would a rear bar help keep both tires more in contact with the ground without causing anything detrimental? And what was the reason Nissan decided to add one on to the Z?
  2. I would be more concerned about behind the flares where they are open. I would think it would look like a 4x4 truck with tires that stick out of the fenders, stuff would be all down the sides.
  3. Yeah, not a fan of the rocket bunny stuff, but like everything else they are doing. Saw the interior pieces on faceook and they are really nice. Can you actually drive the car on a real road with that kit? Seems like so much dirt and rocks will get thrown down the side of the car that it would kill the paint job quickly.
  4. Thanks, but I called a nissan dealer yesterday and they had 1 whole assembly in stock, so I just got that. You're right though, all the ones down here are disintegrating. I found 2 good ines in the JY, the one I had and gave the other to a friend of mine. I had been being very gentle with it for fear of cracking it, but when it fell off on track and was dangling in my rear view, I grabbed it too hard to try to shove it back up and my finger went through it, then it just crumbled into 50 pieces.
  5. Anyone who has either the mcmaster, jc whitney, kia, hyundai seals have any leaking problems now that they have been installed for a while?
  6. Thanks but those are all so old and brittle now that they're basically a ticking time bomb if you actually use it. If I change my mind I'll let you know. Hoping to g in something new.
  7. Has anyone used one of these, and can comment on the quality? My dome light fell out on a track day this weekend, and I pushed it up too hard and shattered the lens. I'm wondering what the quality of these are for $51. If they fit good and not feel flimsy. Does anyone else make new ones?
  8. Keith, what quicktime bellhousing did you use?
  9. If the 8.8 ford kit would have been out when I was doing my drivetrain, I would have went that route, as just about any ratio is available for that, and probably doesn't clunk.
  10. I already have the early q45 short nose. I was wondering if the diff was the same diff maybe since it's 6 bolts, with a different ratio. It would be perfect if it would bolt right in place of the other, but doubt it could be so simple.
  11. How does the pathfinder r200 compare with the early q45 r200? From that forum, sounds like both use the larger 6 bolt axles. I wonder if the pathfinder gears would work in the q45. I really would like around a 3.3ish ratio (I think).
  12. That's about 48/52 F/R. If I took everything out and had half a tank it would probably be 49/51.
  13. Got the car weighed by a weigh station going into mississippi this morning. 3120 with me (200 pounds), spare, jack, etc, a few folding chairs, helmet, and a Mardi Gras bag full of clothes and stuff. I'm guessing that will be around 2850ish if I could have taken everything out. Oh and a totally full tank of gas.
  14. I had a 280 so what I did was take the front parts with the vents, glued with heavy body abs glue a piece of flat abs on the back. The center outlet on vintage air is 3" I think. I need a 45 bend so I went to Lowe's plumbing section and got a 45 abs plumbing elbow that had a 3" OD. Drilled a 3" hole in the flat piece I put on the back where I needed it to be so the hose was as straight as possible, and glued the elbow over the hole.tons of air goes thru it.
  15. Do not use clear silicon on metal painted surfaces! Use adhesive caulk or some other sealer that is paint friendly. Bad place for screwing, make sure you use stainless hardware and seal it well, that's already a problem spot in a lot of early Zs I have seen around the southeast. It would be better to use one of the screws in the cabin nissan already has in place. They did that so as not to have a hole in the bottom of the sump. Not trying to bust your balls, but would hate to see you have to pull all that out a year or so down the road because its leaking and or rusting out.
  16. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/114638-1978-280z-gto-ls1-t56-ttt/page-4 Not the best pictures, but here's how I mounted it.
  17. If I remember right you took out a freeze plug and put that washer in and use that for the temp sensor. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, it's been awhile and I try to not remember all the work I put into this car.
  18. Check out this item I found on eBay: http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?nav=item.view&id=181739985434&alt=web I think this was the place. He hasn't installed it yet so haven't seen how good it works. I have the gen 2 compaction vintage air. It's the largest that can fit, but it's a pita to install.
  19. I'm glad it works for others. The original Z mirrors are so horrible at this point and people want crazy money for the few good ones out there.
  20. Will these fit the early q45 r200 that has the 6 bolt flanges?
  21. I installed vintage air in my 280 and it keeps the car cold. It does require some fitting and dash In and out of the car a few times and fabricating brackets. My friend just ordered one from a seller on ebay in texas that makes a kit specifically for the Z. He hasn't installed it yet, but the pieces look good. I believe the only thing on that kit you have to figure out for yourself is mounting the controls while on the vintage air you have to figure it all out
  22. Yep, next thing they will only come out from under the covers to go be parked in a parking lot and feather dusted by dbags wearing datsun shoes with matching datsun shirts and jackets. These were meant to be drivers cars, hence the reliability. Get one of those delicate cars like an etype and lock it away. Let the Z be free!
  23. I got my strut bar in before my next track event happens. Hope this adds a little more stiffness. If not, it sure is a good looking piece. How much if any preload should be put on these things?
