  1. You'll probably want to replace the turbo dished pistons with flat top pistons.
  2. Thanks a heck of a lot. And I just cannot un-see that S15 now, -15 camber, OUCH!
  3. Your '76 engine is fine for turbocharging. Factory ZXT stuff will bolt on, and work fine, but I suspect the intake and exhaust ports will not match perfectly (doesn't the N42 have round exhaust ports, the turbo head has square ports...?). You will have to remove the pan to install the drain, so either swap it or modify your existing pan; equally easy. It is removable with the engine in, but you might have to lift the engine off the mounts a little bit.
  4. Wow. Count your blessings. I'm so glad that car had the good safety gear.
  5. I had an AMC 304 V8 (2 barrel Holley) in my old '72 International Scout II, and that was the most gutless engine I've ever owned. I had trouble driving up service ramps with it. I'm sure it's not the same engine as you have, but it reminded me that I kind of miss that old dog.
  6. Biodiesel is a really really good degreaser. The only thing that compares is brake cleaner, and biodiesel is far less toxic and non-volatile. Diesel fuel does not even compare.
  7. No worries. The air flow meter will measure the air directly, and with cooler air you likely can dial in a bit more ignition advance to take advantage.
  8. I'm not big into the flared Zs, but Tim I really like that look.
  9. Doesn't sound normal to me, what does the fuel pressure do after this?
  10. Sounds like your pressure regulator diaphragm may be leaking, allowing fuel to get in your intake manifold through the vacuum line. Get a pressure gauge and measure your fuel pressure.
  11. Very nice. I admire those with the determination and patience to do these ground up restores. I hardly have the time to keep mine running so I can hit the track every once in a while. Nice going.
  12. It can get hotter than that under a hood, and if the ambient temperature is that hot, that leaves nowhere for the unit to dump its heat while operating, so its temperature can rise higher than that easily.
  13. Sounds amazing. Love to see some pictures if you care to post them.
  14. Glad to see the dream still alive. When you get it running I want to see it in person.
  15. It does say it is compatible, I missed that. I did see this on Summit Racing though, and that's why I thought it was for a carbureted engine "With a high free-flow rate and consistent fuel pressure, these Carter in-line electric fuel pumps will keep up with any carburetor. Racers will appreciate their low 4.5 amp draw, too." Perhaps the intake of the pump is clogged with old debris.
  16. That pump is for carburetors. It will not deliver the flow at the pressure you need. With the 280Z fuel rail and regulator, you will just be dead-heading that and it won't flow.
  17. Not much you can do with a misfiring ignition...
  18. You can use the Walbro or just about any Bosch high pressure pump. You don't have to worry about the pressure, the fuel rail pressure regulator will take care of that.
