  1. Just an FYI, machine shops usually charge a reasonable rate to remove broken bolts/studs. Also, the crack looks perfectly weldable. My boss welds engine blocks almost every day, from aluminum outboards, iron blocks, and even magnesium ones every now and then.
  2. I used to have MSA twice pipes on my bumperless 280z. It sounded awesome, highway wasn't too bad, and I'd set off car alarms all the way out of the school's garage and down my street to my house. What sucked was the 280z ones were designed for a huge bumper, so they stuck out a lot. Stab yourself in the leg bad. That and the glass packs get REALLY loud after a while.
  3. Did you get the motor out of a running car? If so I say just run it. These motors are surprisingly robust. I've only lost one at 20psi and it had 250k miles (possibly more).
  4. It depends on what you want. Here is So AZ Miata's go way over blue book in the spring months. I'd imagine it'd be similar in Florida. I daily'd one for a while, they are definitely fun cars.
  5. There's no such thing as a cheap roll bar for the Miata. The cheap ones are "style bars", better known as mouse traps.
  6. 510six, how much boost was used in those dyno plots?
  7. You can get to all the bolts without removing the fender. What size I don't know, but I would guess 14mm. These cars can be taken apart almost completely with a 10, 12, 14, 16, 17, 19, 21mm wrenches. Also make sure the latch is the same as your car otherwise I don't think the doors interchange.
  8. Can you weld? Two 3" 45deg mandrel bends are pretty cheap. There are big gains when going to a 3in downpipe compared to stock, sure this is a step up as well, but no where near what you can do with the same kind of money.
  9. Are you sure the fan clutch itself is hitting the rad? If it's just the fan, later cars used different offset plastic fans. A local guy here has also mounted the fan spaced out with washers on the backside of a clutch before for clearance.
  10. If you want cheap just get a hub from another car/junk yard. For the most part these bearings last a long time.
  11. I like the following one I saw here: Let's eat grampa. Let's eat, grampa. Yay punctuation!
  12. Awesome, you learn something new every day.
  13. Looks nice! The paint looks interesting, even though it is chemical resistant, will it stand up to the heat? I'd be worried of it flaking off and clogging the oil pickup tube.
  14. Thanks for the shout out Jon It was actually water jet cut, which I think is better (but I'm biased haha) so if any of you guys have any crazy ideas we can cut 6" thick and up to 4'x8' through pretty much anything except diamond and tempered glass (wood, foam, rubber, steel, stainless, aluminum, titanium, inconel, etc). I'm a full time student working at a machine shop programming and operating the water jet so this was mostly done on my own time (aka I'm cheap!). We get material at really good prices and I was lucky we had a scrap of aluminum that fit the dash perfectly. Our shop rate is reasonable so we're really good for those short production runs! If any of you want to bounce ideas of me just shoot me a PM or e-mail me, Mario
  15. If you have tokico springs for a Z then they will be the wrong diameter for GC coilover tubes.
  16. If you can start it is there oil on the top end? If it's been a month since you've noticed the lack of oil something would have broken by now.
  17. My friend toasted his l28et running 19psi on a pretty big T4 turbo. We were wondering if anyone has done a bored out motor using the following components: 1. N42 block 2. P90 head 3. L24 big rods 4. KA24E cast pistons 5. Nissan head gasket According to AtlanticZ's tech tips that should yield about 7.7:1 CR. The thing that worries me the most the -1.37mm deck height and the cast KA24E pistons, but according to the interwebs stock internal KAs have hit >400hp. Anyone see any red flags with this setup? Is this a no go? Sorry I'm a complete newb when it comes to internals.
  18. IIRC Diamond racing 15x8s weigh more then 20lbs. 17x10s are probably pushing 30lbs. Of unsprung weight... You know stock Z wheels run 13-15lbs? Something that heavy is going to make a noticeable impact in driving experience.
  19. It sounds really good too. -Former twice pipes owner
  20. You did a 13.01 with 2.25in exhaust?!?! That Z definitely scoots!
  21. Why not tack the studs so they don't spin? On the rest of the matter, I've seen WORSE stock. Honda N600 seat mounting comes to mind...
  22. I buy broken laptops Well, if I know I can fix them. Too bad the dv7 isn't included in the Nvidia class action suit. Honestly a dv7 that needs a GPU reflow will not fetch anything near $400. I take it it's out of warranty?
  23. Just because someone on HybridZ won't pay that amount doesn't mean it isn't worth that (or more) to someone else. I hope he gets paid, it's a very clean car with a good modern take on it. I do think the buyer should have done his research though.
  24. I *think* it's the YZ with sugar scoops grafted on them. IMSA kit looks more like bubble flares.
