i have been 3 times-and volunteered and helped on a big art project a few years back-its fun-i like it-and have a good vehicle for it.but my ole lady doesnt like camping.if there was a hybrid z camp i would go again.couldnt make it this year-i am in iraq working on army trucks.
-
wish i was there but i am working out in the iraqi desert fixing army trucks.the defense contracting life.i have to make money for z parts in a sucky economy.just got back from sydney australia from r&r though.suck down a pacifico or del sol for me.i usually go dirt back riding in san felipe when i can(just across the sea of cortez from you).

i would save it-in about 2 or 3 years of hard driving the spider gears get sloppy in the diff if you really use your car hard.plus it has a bigger pinion flange to build a heavy duty driveshaft with.i would probably save the drive shaft to-it has bigger u joints.most drive line shops will shorten and rebalence for around $100 or less.i have seen 280zxt powered cars waste the drive shafts at the drag strip with the small original z car driveshaft.

bsd-i would not presume that most people on this board dont change thier own oil-i would say that they probably do or if they dont its just to avoid the hazmat problem.as far as vw-the vw you know and love is a totally different animal today.my brother had a 2002 jetta v6 5speed for awhile.put 80k miles on it.the starter was squeeking because of a starter drive problem and he had problems with power door locks and windows.another friend had a turbo beetle and a turbo impellor vein got loose and wiped out the whole engine.the interior pieces are known to rattle.my girlfriend's 20 year old daughter has a cheap hyundai (year 2002) and has has needed nothing but tires & brakes& fliters in 70k miles.check consumer reports.also if you want to work on a late model car you will soon learn its best not done at home.ps-i am an ase certified master auto technician

the thermostats on explorers have a habit of opening soon or sticking open as the vehicle gets milage on it.if you dont use it in a very cold(snow) climate you wont notice this.this affects fuel milage.another thing to check is air charge temp sensor.getting the vehicle to run like the day it was new is the only way to try to get some fuel milage out of it.only use ford parts and motorcraft spark plugs.keep the tire pressures up-like 36 psi.when it goes to smog shop make sure its wasnt parked then driven directly onto the dyno.

Not Technical, really, just a Statement about the MS.

hope mine starts good when i get home-no jobs at home.i am contracting in iraq at this time. -
because of local economic conditions i decided to take a job for a year working for a government contractor in iraq.being unemployed for a year it was time to pay up.i am working as a truck mechanic on b1 in alasad.7 days a week.its hard being away from my family.but my bills will be paid in 6 months.i expected most of the people working here to be young-wrong.most people are over 35.if you are unemployed there are many companys with contracts here.so do your homework.and you should like living in a tent

call the district attorney in the county that he owns his business in and find out if you can file a complaint for fraud.i have had bad luck with small claims court-in california if you get a judgement you still have to collect.usually if some squid gets a wage garnishment he quits that job and moves on

went to vegas for a week -the ole lady went to get her nails done.no problem

i will try to avoid politics in this post-but i really just like to watch the bike riders in the sand.i heard the sanctioning body got a terriost threat.it doesnt surprise me.they should have hired blackwater?
-
i have lived in sf bay area-unless you make over $100k a year you will never be able to afford a house there.reno-i like it there but most jobs dont pay as much.but no state income tax.its cold in the winter-so it costs for heat.but its a very motorsports friendly place-many gearheads.they like there motorsports there.everything from dirt bike riding to snowmobiles and drag racing.there is a race track complex out at fernley.take your chance and get out of komifornia.

Need help, Turbo Blue-oval 4 banger query...
randy 77zt replied to GOTHALOSISM's topic in Other Engines
i used to work as a ford dealer tech and owned an 87 for awhile.87-88 were the best variations of this engine.the ford dealer wiring book for this car is very good-try to buy 1 -it will save you mucho time .i had a buddy that swapped a 88 motor into a ranger.rangers had different alternator brackits-so dont be afraid to goto pick&pull for parts.i would probably run megasquirt to get rid of the air flow sensor and alot of wiring. -
when i figure out how to sell out of california virginia wont be on my list of places to move to if they have alot of crazy car laws + high insurence
-
engine is vg30et-and yes it is a crash motor.they changed them later in think-but not sure.when i was working as a tech many years ago in sf bay area i fixed a na car that crashed the valves.if you have a place like pick&pull just get some used heads>if the car has been sitting the injectors will be plugged_rotten fuel lines-rotten water hoses.so to get the car back to daily driver status it will be some work.

Paid a reputable shop to install supercharger on my C6 :(
randy 77zt replied to 2003z's topic in Non Tech Board
i have worked as a tech in a few shops.auto repair has a shortage of good techs.why?low pay.if a tech is smart enough to know how all the systems on a modern car works they are smart enough to get a higher paying job.the owner of that shop probably bid the job too low.the techs get payed by the job-the tech was probably out of time.the flat rate pay system for techs doensnt really work anymore/ -

snow boarding?a z run on hwy 49?just suggestions

if the whole deck tilts and is low to start with your z will be easier to load.when you have a trailer with ramps the car usually bottems out on the back of the trailer.if you get a 20' deck it should probably have to 3000lb axles with brakes-a 20' is likely to get a big load on it like a tractor at the rental yard or fire wood-or a friends old cadillac.the local stock car racers around here build very light and low frame/ramp trailers with no springs-they tie the car down around the tires and the car suspension takes the hit.

i run a act 240mm full face disk and cover-i like it .clutch is okay to drive in bad places-like downtown sanfrancisco.i dont like the puck clutches engage -and damage the flywheel after they wear out.supposed to be good for 400hp-good enough for my turbo l28.
-
computor is wired to my home stereo system-played it back through my kilpsch lascala speakers-that ought to bug the neighbors.
-
the e =electric choke.the castings are slightly different.i used to play with these years back.usually the secondary main jet was too lean.but these carbs will hold a tune well once set up correctly.would be interesting to datalog with innovate wide band o2 to get jetting correct at all speed ranges.
-
i used to be a ford tech-stay away from focus.in california you need a good basic car besides your hot rod.do not buy a modded late model car-they turn into a hole that sucks dollars.a musician-i am thinking honda crv or something like that.or 1 of those new style mini -wagons like like mazda 3 size.you probably need to fold down the seats-some of the new cars do not have a flat load floor when the seats are down.
-
in chasing the pri-ignition detonation problem on my turbo z i decided to recheck the timing and make sure the ms is reading the same as my timing light.i noticed the timing bouncing some with the timing light.the the computor hooked up to my ms was steady.so i put the timing light on the coil wire-its steady.so i pull the distributor cap -the problem is combination of wear in 20+ year old parts-slop in distributor gear/oil pump.my ms system is kind of strange-i fire it from a hall sensor and magnets in the flywheel.ms unit is old 2.2 version .can the newer ms units read a separate hall sensor for the cylinder 1 and crank position?or just ditch the crank fire and go to edis?
