    L28et

I am currently in the market to start sourcing parts for a turbo swap into my S30. I am interested in anything you may have to get me to my goal, which is as of right now, to run a stock l28et in my 240z. The more complete of a swap the better for me. Let me know what you've got
  3. I want to try to do an engine swap in my 280z, hopefully to a vr38dett from a nissan gtr.. Does anyone know if this is possible? The engine is a 3.8 v6 if you didnt know. I havent seen anything about anyone trying it before. If that doesnt work, id do an rb26(i6), or an ls1(v8). Opinions:thoughts/knowledge is appreciated.
  4. I'm in the market for a 5 speed transmission from a 77-78 280z for my 240z. I am in the Sacramento Area but I'd be willing to travel a bit for the Transmission.
  5. I had a chance to photograph Kevin Yeung’s extremely clean and well-executed 240z. I was an extremely excited to do this feature because I am working on a 240z of my own. 6. Hello, Everyone! Does anyone know about a 240z chassis for shipping to the UK? I live in Buckinghamshire, England and REALLY need a new chassis. It doesn't need to have anything on it I'm just looking for a rust free...a relatively rust free chassis that wouldn't take too much work to get back to a solid body again. I hear that in Arizona the body's are really well kept from the dry atmosphere? Well, if your in Arizona (or anywhere else) and you have a 240z chassis that you don't mind shipping, message me I guess? Email: armstrong.stuart@live.co.uk Any help on getting a new shell would be VERY much appreciated. I only drove my Z for 15 minutes. She was so far gone the chassis was twisting so I wasn't able save her :'-( THANKS! Stuart
  7. Quick pull through a tunnel 2nd and 3rd gear. Rb25 powered 240z with approximately 450whp.

  10. Hello, I'm looking for some sort of 5 lug rear set up for my '73 240z. Redrilled stub axles or some sort of aftermarket solution, whatever you have. Already have the front hubs all set up so just looking for 5 lug stubs. Alternatively, if you happen to have machinery I would be willing to pay you to re-dril my stub axles. Would be willing to trade my stock 240z 4 lug stubs for some 5 lugs of some sort. Planning on using 240z half shafts with the 240z stub axle flange, if that matters. Also have some 280zxt companion flanges (the ones used for CV conversion) if that's of interest as a partial trade. Please let me know!
  11. So I'm beginning to fix some things on my series1 240Z #5837. One of the most obvious issues is the horn button. The black plastic behind it was 40 years old and cracked and crumbling to the point that no amount of glue or Zipties was going to hold that button on. So talking with a buddy of mine, he suggested maybe I could print up a fix. He gave me another busted up button to tear apart, so I did and created a new insert to replace the busted up 40 year old crappy plastic. I printed this out of ABS and worked it into my old button after removing the old plastic. I made it about 3mm wider OD to ensure a snug fit. It can be glued in place with rubber cement, but I'm not certain that's necessary, as it's fairly tight. It fits well on 240Z's and I can print it in about any color (not that you'd see it). Here it's printed in white so you can see the detail. It snaps on just the same as the original did, but ABS is a little more forgiving. If there's a market, I was thinking of selling the printed inserts for $20 ea. It's very interesting to think of recreating various classic S30 parts that are difficult to come by, especially NOS. Let me know if there's any other parts you might like to see recreated. Phar
  12. So I'm looking to lower my stock 240z, aggressive enough to have a noticable difference from a stock z but still practical enough for the street. The guys at Ground Control sell a weld on coilover kit that most people are happy about but now im debating what type of struts and shocks to buy to replace the stock ones. I plan on having maybe a 200ish lb spring rate upfront and 225-250 spring rate in the back all depending on what struts and shocks i get.I know alot of people are getting tokicos, or even using aw11 struts and i was even suggestsed some Monroes or Gabriels. Opinions?? Suggestions??
  13. I'm always interested in opinions and recommendations on my 240z widebody project. Currently all my photos are at http://240z.tumblr.com/tagged/240-z
  14. Hey Guys, well, i've reached a point in my project where i just had no clue what to do to get it running right other than to take it to a shop. Long story short.... The car has idling problems/ boost leak problems?e Car turns on and runs and can be driven. But the car definitely has a major lack of power as boost gets nowhere near stock psi. i checked for major leaks with a home made boost leak compressor based gadget to test leaks on piping from turbo running through inter-cooler all the way to intake plenum. gauge on tester goes down very very slowly but Not sure whether or not that should cause such significant lack of power. Car when driven barely gets to spool much boost, let alone set off the greddy type S BOV. there is fuel, there is spark. Timing i can't even get done accurately since the car idles and runs, spits, like crazy . seems like it the problem is aiming toward a boost leak problem; however, this project having been done from ground up by me and being my first swap, the margin of error remains.... electrical wiring schematics were gathered from intel from this site based on previous wiring diagrams from L28et to 240z swaps. I took it to a Datsun specialist shop here in (SAN DIEGO, CA 91911 )nearby that has remarkable yelp feedback and honest to god the owner of the shop seemed like a knowledgeable great guy and interested to fix on it.... but after 3 months of waiting i was dissapointed to hear he was unable to get positive results as (and i quote) " specialize in N/A for the most part" which would've been nice to know prior to wasting my 3 months ANYWAY! Does anybody know of a good shop here in SAN DIEGO, CA area that does honest and good work on 240z's in a timely manner for a decent price? or anybody who could take a look at it and figure out what needs to be addressed. the wrenching i can do. but with the TIME i have free it's just not feasible for me to LOOK or TROUBLESHOOT. i need someone to say " THIS, THIS, and THAT. i can get it fixed for _____and running right, otherwise its ____ for the diagnosis and have a nice day. HELP! Here's a link to a youtube Video of the car when i took it for a short ride to the end of the block, as you will notice, the car had issues staying on when cold. hopefully by hearing it maybe some of you could throw some educated guess/recommendation http://www.youtube.com/edit?ns=1&video_id=y79Rjd1uI60 Some pics.
  15. I was planning for a while to swap RB25/30 NA setup but after reviewing it a lot working with different heads and lack of upgraded cams in some heads dropped the idea. Moved to VQ35DE/HR for which wiring is a bit of a pain but then couldnt find HR engine and where I found with online wiring service (2k$) and engine cost over all project costs jumped. So in between talking to few installer came across something unusual and interesting taking it as a challenge. VQ30DET, its a rare engine same quad cams but block is much stronger then VQ35 and low compression as it comes with a turbo from factory. It is fitted to the following vehicles: 1995–2004 Nissan Gloria Y33,Y34 1995–2004 Nissan Cedric Y33,Y34 1997–1999 Nissan Leopard Y33 2001–present Nissan Cima F50 As per some forums stock engine is running on 5-6psi and gives around 280hp and turbo can go easily upto 14psi before playing with the wastegate and power can go upto 350ish but still needs to be checked, as people are running cars upto 500whp on stock block and its holding great so there is good potential in the engine. Being a destroked version compared to VQ35 its revs better as well. One other things which my mechanic said engine is without VVT so can change the cam gears as well if needed along with cams maybe for future. After looking for a while found one here, as per Air flow meter clips seems like came out of 2002-2006 model Nissan Cima here it is Bought the whole things with 8 speed CVT gearbox lol, and engine mounts sway bars and most importantly ECU and harness. Was lucky found a CD009 gearbox out of 2006 JDM 350z as well. Covers removed from engine There will be alteration needed in cross member, whole exhaust manifold on engine and might need to move the turbo a bit as well. I opened up the engine so do some colours and for some porting the exhaust and intake inlets, engine was clean but too much slug inthe oil sump seems like car was running on those 30k limited oil, but compression came out good. Only problem was turbo came out broken one fan was missing so will change that from the shop got the engine. Fan was chocked and one side one is missing, as for the size seems bigger then RB25 turbo more like GT25 series size. Engine opened up Intake and TB Lower intake manifold These are parts I dropped for chroming will do a contrast in these three Pulleys as well for chroming (sample chrome piece on left side )
  16. Hey guys, I have been thinking about purchasing a 240/260/280z for a while now. I have done my share of research on this car for the past several months. I am looking to get one of these cars as a weekend driver, would like to mod it- Start with suspension, wheels, flares, etc....maybe end up with a swap(V8), or turbo. I am really only looking to purchase one locally, so cant drive too far....needless to say a lot of the cars I have come across so far have not been perfect (rust, unknown miles, etc). I came across this one, what do you guys think? http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/3654467232.html I would need to buy a new front bumper/valance (don't mind the no rear bumper look). The guy is unsure of actual mileage, but odo reads 66k. He says there was some rust he has repaired (floorpans and corner panels). Interior has been freshened up (new carpet, recovered seats, etc). Original color was metallic green, has a small oil leak...he thinks just a oil drain plug. "smokes a little" when he downshifts he says. Is it worth the price? thoughts are appreciated! Thanks, Keith
  17. So about 6 months ago I was out of town and got a call from a friend telling me that I was getting fine notices for not registering my 240z which I had been working on (It is an early 1973 240z currently completely stock). I told my friend to take it down to the muffler shop and have them throw on an exhaust just to get it passing inspection; well my friend knew nothing about cars and It showed when he was talking to the muffler shop because they overcharged him/me and put on one of the cheapest most restrictive exhausts you could imagine (1 3/4 in pipe, cheap restrictive muffler, non mandrel bent pipe, and they slapped it on to the rusty manifold). I have been driving it since because I need it as a daily driver but now is the time to change it because I can tell that my engine hates it. This is were my dilemma sets in. I want to put an l28 into my car because the l24 is starting to give out on me and I am tired of putting in lead substitute everytime I refill costing and extra 10 dollars. I also want my 240z to be running until I have rebuilt the l28 and it is time to drop it in, but with the exhaust It is becoming more difficult to drive. I would like to put a header on the l24 and new 2 1/4 pipe all the way through the car. However I am building on a budget and would like to reuse the exhaust once I drop the l28 in. I have heard that the E88 (my current head) and the P90 (my soon to be l28 head with flat-top pistons) have the same square exhaust ports. Will a header built to fit an E88 fit on to a P90 head, and will the rest of the l24 exhaust fit under the car after the engine swap? Thank you, I hope this all made sense

  21. From the album: 71 240Z

Well.... it's a 71 240Z as mentioned in the title. It has a genuine 62K miles on the clock. (Actually that is 100K kms). It's a "right hooker" as we are forced to drive on the left hand side of the road. We can thank the British for that. Recent upgrades include rear disc brakes and 13" rotors and Alcon 4-pots up front. All bushes have been replaced, and suspension is now handled by Ground Control coilovers and Tokico shocks. The motor is the original L24 (head ported and cam). Fuel is taken care of by means of 45mm DICE throttle bodies. (DICE - Dave Ingle Competition Engines). Dictator management system takes care of the spark. Has been dynoed at 205 fwhp @ 7000rpm. Numbers were still climbing, but took pity on the old girl and backed off. Interior is 100% stock, including the 1971 radio and single speaker!
  22. Hey Guys, I'm a relatively new Z owner.. I bought a 1971 240Z at the end of summer, and I've been trying to get it into top running form. One of the previous owners put alot of work into it, but one thing that has been giving me a headache is trying to figure out what to do with the ignition system.. I've done alot of searches, and research, but the more I learn the more I don't know what to do. Basically I would like to upgrade from the old points system to electronic ignition, and just get the best possible setup. From what I've read It seems everyone has a different opinion on which way to go.. It currently has an Accel super coil, but after reading the specs online I'm a bit worried about the part where it says "Effective up to 6500rpm". My 240 has a .280 cam and has been balanced to handle high Rpms, and although I don't like to do it, it will go past 7500rpm.. But now that I'm thinking about it I'm not sure its really pulling as hard as it should past 6500. Maybe I'm just imagining that though. (I would go test it right now, but since I can't get it through emissions testing I can't put regular insurance on it, which means expensive permits.. That and I avoid the wet weather like the plague.) I would like the ignition to handle up to 8000rpm to take advantage of the cam, not that I plan on taking it that high very often.. Then theres theres upgrading to electronic ignition.. I'd like something easy to upgrade where I won't have to replace the Tach.. Pertronix sells a kit which sounds like an easy upgrade, but I'm not sure if it will work with my coil, which I don't know if I should keep... And it all needs to look original, or be from the 70's-80's period for my car to qualify for a local Vintage car race I'd like to take part in.. ahhh, that headache is coming on again Part of this upgrade is to try and get the car running as efficiently as possible to help with the emissions testing.. If I can squeze it through without having to get it specially tuned, and retuned, while spending the money on what I should be upgrading anyways I'll be very happy. I'm really at a loss to which way I should go here.. Any advice that you guys could give would really help.
  23. I started doing a swap into my 240z about 4 months ago im slowly moving forward. i got the engine with custom engine mounts and the transmission in with custom mounts. i got my engine from my 92 eagle talon tsi fully built. just got tired of not being able to drive it on the street because of the setup/braking transmissions. so me and my father in law were planning on building a z either way and putting a sr20det into it. but his plans changed and wasn't able to do it. so he gave me the 240z. so with my parts i had at home and the race 4g63 i really wanted to do this swap so i looked into what i need to make a rwd setup for a 4g63. so first step i bought a custom bellhousing to mate a r154 to 4g63. second step i made the engine mounts and transmission mounts. the engine sits in there like it was made for a z. lol then i started working on the intake manifold which i just made a flange and welded it to the other side of the manifold. next step was making sure my gt35r will fit rotated and it actually fit really nice so now im even more excited on getting this project done!!! pictures coming soon
  24. Hello, I am looking to buy a 240z in the Wisconsin area or as close as possible. I would like it to be a project, so it does not have to run but would prefer all the parts be there. I have been looking for quite sometime. I am really only able to pay at most 1500, which i know is not going buy a whole lot of quality but i have just fallen in love with these cars and want one so bad. Thanks!
  25. Hi everyone, I've been having some issues with my door that I'm trying to fix but frankly I need some help with what I can actually do to fix it. I made a video showing and telling the issues I have: My hope was some folks on here could watch it and give me some guidance as to what exactly is wrong and how to fix it. Thanks, - Pac Man
